There are lots of different way to clean your atties. I just use 91% Isopropyl Alcohol to soak them for about 20 minutes and let them dry overnight. The alcohol will evaporate completely and it won't leave a residue. You shouldn't need to do this more than once a week or so. The rest of the time, just blow them out at least once a day.

When their performance drops off is when I do it. That would be less vapor, burned taste or if you want to change to a completely different flavor you might want to clean it first. I use this method:
1. Blow out your atty until no more juice comes out.
2. Over the sink, put some baking soda in the open end of the atty then add vingegar.
3. Quickly plug both ends with fingers so that the "eruption" comes out the air holes on the side.
4. Repeat until liquid coming out is clean looking.
5. Rinse atty under running water and blow out about 10 times. (Rinse/blow, rinse/blow...)
6. Blow out and dry with paper towel.
7. Attach atty to Riva battery and dry burn until you see the coil getting nice and red.
8. Let cool for a minute, prime with about 3-4 drops of e-liquid and vape.

How often - depends. If you are using juices that leave little or no flavoring sediment (mainly light clear juices) you may not have to clean as often. but when I was using attys all the time, I had to clean one every weekend while switching to a clean one (after priming the clean one well and waiting for the jucie to soak to the coil).

Cleaning - I do this. I blow out the atty, the I put it in a deep bowl of just-boiled water. I use a tongs and scoop water through the atty, then angle it underwater to let out all air bubbles and let is soak for 15 min. Then I scoop water through again, then shake/blow it out. The I drop it in a jar of pure grain alcohol (edible - Everclear), and angle it to let all air bubbles out and leave it in that overnight. Next day I scoop some through then shake out the atty and set it to dry in my drying container (a margarine tub bottom lined with paper towel). Next time I need a clean atty it will be dry. (not you can use rubbing alcohol but just remember it is poison - don't use the atty until totally dry)

Now I only use attys to test juices and drip a few juices that are thicker than I will put in cartos or that I just don't like to vape often enough to put in a carto. I mostly use Boge cartomizers on my Riva 510 for my favorite juices and do 95% of my vaping on the cartos. Boge are the most popular cartos for 510 threading. I use standard resistance Boge because I prefer the extra battery life vs extra heat, and I use the same cartos on my slim 510 (slim batteries can only use standard resistance). So I don't have to clean my attys as much now.
