For a very interesting way to observe how this works, the next time you eat out and get really good service don't tip, but take a dollar and give it to another staff member that had nothing to do with the fine service you received. Tell them your service was great, but you would rather save a few dollars and give your money to someone who didn't do the work. Then stand back and watch for the reaction.

That's what pro authentic people want to avoid, that's what we see when people buy clones. That's what makes us sick.

Maurice

this post should be a sticky. No more clone vs. authentic arguement ever again. If you can't understand how it works after this example, you will never figure it out and are 99 percent responsible for all the world's problems.

Just caught up on this thread. Lemme get this straight. If a person cannot afford an authentic mod for whatever reason, they should just accept their lot in life and be relegated to blister pack eGo's forever. But if a mod maker doesn't have the business sense to get their intellectual property protected, they should still be afforded that protection. Got it. Makes perfect sense.

You guys crack me up. You know, I understand the desire to own nice, original stuff. I also understand why people don't like clones. I went to college and I understand that plagiarism is bad, bad, bad. I also don't fault builders for charging what the market will bare. If I had a full time job, the chances are, that's I'd own at least one high-end mod. But when you all start taking about R&D costs and different grades of SS, give me a break. These are battery holders we are talking about, not cars, not aircraft and not fine art or jewelery. There's not much engineering and design involved in these things. The grade of metal being used seems to be appropriate for the use, after all, it's a BATTERY HOLDER! As long as it doesn't cause excessive voltage drop, rust, deform or get scratched easy, I'm a happy camper. The truth is, the quality of some cheap crap can be pretty good these days. Now if you're talking APVs, I'm not a fan of some of the electronics coming out of China, but battery holders, they aren't all that bad.

While no mod made in US or any other first world country will be as cheap as one made in China, Super-T has shown that a basic, but high quality mod can be sold for a reasonable price ($70). I was reading about how they did it, They simplified their design, and therefore cut down on the amount of machining that was needed, by using a design that has no bottom cap. Some pretty smart cookies over at Super-T, if you ask me.
I agree, great company. http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/super-t-manufacturing/593757-other-thoughts-clones-counterfeits.html

Nonsense. If you smoked, you can afford an authentic mod. There are plenty of inexpensive authentic mods. In fact, there is a thread around here with a list of authentic mods priced under $100.

How do you know some of them don't? Patents can take two or three years to be granted. In the meantime if someone overseas clones their product there isn't much they can do. As fast as this industry moves, by the time the patent is granted almost everyone has moved on to other, newer products.

Just a few points...

1. Steel is not steel, It's a big business here in the Philippines to sell junk metals in bulk to china. Examples of which are old and even sunken ships and even
old pipes from demolished houses..
2. If you understand the time, effort and even money spent on R&D, there is a chance that you might find it in your hearts to buy the real thing.
3. If you are unethical enough to clone, you may be unethical enough to skimp on quality materials and forgo a few steps in quality control in lieu of profit.

Steel is steel... Even that old 'junk metal' can be smelted and made pure again. However, we are talking about steel alloys, and in this case, 304 is 304 and 316 is 316. There will be small variations depending on the mill, but the minimum and maximum amounts of each metal in the steel is a worldwide standard.

No, no, no.. If you cant afford a mod, you should sell blood or beg on a street corner so people who CAN afford mods can yell at you to 'Get a job! Bum!'

The rest of the world use to say the same about us 50 years ago..

You know, I read this a lot and I think, while it's somewhat true, it's also true that many people of limited means, because of their addition to cigarettes, spent money on smokes that should have gone to other things. I know, when I was a kid, I'd buy cigarettes before, things like nourishing food. So, given cheaper alternatives, I can't fault people on limited budgets for taking advantage of those.

If it's just a metal tube with a button on it, then my cigalikes are equal to all of your mods. Apparently design doesn't matter. All eCigs are equal. I shall now name my cigalike "Provari" and tell people that's what I vape from. Only cost me $20.

You'll give some of the Provari people a near stroke talking like that.

Well, steel is an alloy, there are lots of steels, thousands of steels to be close to correct. More are developed as the need for differing qualities come into being.

Each grade has what amounts to a recipe, at least this much of a couple elements and not more than a few others with iron generally taking up the remainder.

To say that all 304 steel is the same is an illusion to the reality of how things work in the real world. Low quality 304 aside high quality 304 is going to result in very obvious differences.

SciTech Connect: Metallurgical evaluation of recycled stainless steel

Is just one paper that speaks to how a grade of steel meets minimum specs but isn't really good for all applications needing that type of steel.

Basically this paper says the steels tested are kinda junky versions of the standard. Sort of like that guy that comes to work and does just enough to not get fired, yep that's this in a nutshell.

I test steel at work all the time. PRC quality is different than US or European...

I missed something (yup, it happens ;)). Which clone makers are being sued?

From VapingwithTwisted420 September 14 facebook page
Logo-less clones may soon become the norm(Which I have no issue with) A inside source shared this with me.....

"So here's what's gonna happen soon. The "shot callers" vape game leaders... Guys that run Calivapers, vaperev, skeleton key along with svoemesto and atmomixani are spending a lot of money on lawyers to attack the clone makers and sellers. This is only the beginning man... Now that these guys have made a lot of money from their products, they have money to fight back now. They are going after the factories in china, big distributors here in us and china as well as websites that move a lot of inventory. So fasttech, 101vape, vaportek etc.

This is where it gets bad, they are forming legal teams in china along with working with customs to find these products before they even leave china and confiscate them for evidence. Products to avoid cloning... Pretty much anything that's Cali based along with atmomixani and svoemesto"

Interesting.

I wonder why?

It certainly isn't because they are all just threaded tubes.

It certainly isn't because of a performance increase over a chunk of copper pipe and a few odds and ends.

It certainly isn't because you can't make your own from junk

Hey! That first link is pretty much a perfect copy of the first mech mod I made. Still works to this day(over 3 years later), but I don't use it anymore. copper pipes tend to get funny looks. Especially copper pipes with parts sticking out of them.

I have my Provari that I LOVE, and I have a Logo-free EHPro Nemesis. For various reasons it was the absolute cheapest mod I could find, partially because of many reward points with madvapes. I personally don't give 2 shakes about value appreciation. I just needed something I could not feel bad about getting abused when the situation might lead to it. (Rough work stuff)

And while I may not have experience with a caravela, anyone proclaiming that a Nemesis is anything more than a metal tube with the worlds simplest switch design is kidding themselves.

Place yourself in this scenario:

You work for a large company that designed and produces a product. Heck you even helped design the product. You depend on your employment for your families financial security and your retirement planning. Life is good but then China decides to grab one of your products and makes a clone of your companies product and markets it at half the cost and tax free. China floods the market and their sales soar because of the price and after all this is a free market economy, right? All of a sudden your employment is terminated due to lack of sales and the company closes. As a consumer of the cloned product you may have benefited short-term from the cost savings you realized but in the long run what was the impact?
