Awash in a sea of terminology and gross e-liquid

Hey there. I'm very new to e-cigs. I bought a Blu disposable which I found really great, but read all over the place that Blu was terrible and so I went for a V2 kit. Really regretting that. They taste awful. I also bought a njoy disposable on a whim and it was also pretty gag-worthy.
I'm thinking of just grabbing a Blu starter kit. They're only like $35 and these V2s make me feel nauseated and make me want to go smoke a real cigarette. Such a waste of money.

I know there are more advanced stuff, but my head is swimming from all these terms I don't understand.

Is there some sort of FAQ or ... I dunno, guide or something for total noobs such as myself?

V2 make a lot of different flavors - did you only get the Red flavor? I seem to remember loving Sahara! I didn't care for the standard Blu flavor at all, but ymmv.

The best thing you can do is just to read through the forum - I do think someone made a guide, but I'm afraid I don't know where it is. Keep reading and you'll start to pick up what's going on. (Someone else will probably chime in and point you to the post I'm thinking about!).

Good luck - stick with it - it really is worthwhile :)

Which term(s) do you not understand? I'm sure people would be more than happy to help answer any of your questions.

As far as Blu and other cig likes ones, the only one I found that tasted okay was the Mark 10. It was $10 and doesn't even pretend to taste like an actual cigarette, it's more of a coffee flavor.

You may also want to look at getting into a battery+tank set up. It's what I switched to after trying a cig-like and then promptly going back to real smokes for a few years. A local shop set me up with a battery and tank and I've been tobacco free for a little over two months now.

Thanks AmandaD.
I have some peppermint coming from V2 as well. I'm apprehensive, though, given how ill the reds make me feel. Some of this might be due to whatever bug I've been laid up with for the past few weeks. If it ever passes, I may find my taste has changed. :)

I'll try and read through the forums. I have been, and I shall continue. Got a bit overwhelmed, so I decided to ask. Thanks for the encouragement. I feel so stupid not knowing anything.

I'll see if I can find that around here. The Blu tastes more like coffee/mocha too.

At this very moment I can't really come up with any specific questions. Like I said, I'm kind of overwhelmed. But a good example would be that I have no idea what a battery+tank set is. :) I'll Google it. Thanks.

Forgot to add that I also started with the V2 kit - don't spend the money on another kit, just buy different flavors of cartos from V2 till you find one you like. Actually, I think the G6 cartos from Halo will fit the V2 - and they have some fantastic flavors imo. You can also buy sample kits of flavors from both sites. Halo's Tribeca is one of my favorites!

I agree with the V2. IMHO they are far better at internet marketing than making a good product.

The main "problem" with Blu is that they are a bit wimpy (little vapor), wear out quickly and have to be charged constantly if one uses it much.

The E-roll is a good alternative. (There are a couple others that are popular here, that are worthy, but I don't remember the names.)

A little bigger (fatter) battery could be a good choice too and many will recomend an ego style battery. If you want a very nice and a bit unique "step up" try the Innokin Itaste III.

Innokin has just released this one, too: It's called the Lily

And, keep asking questions. Don't be shy.

Hello :) There's a ton of stuff out there and it can be very overwhelming. Sorry about the purchases you made that were a waste of money. That is never fun. [redacted because I'm a noob] Here is a link that explains some of the lingo.

Thanks a bunch! I'll get to reading that now.

Good advice. I think the withdrawals have me making rash decisions.
And I'll look into the G6 cartridges as well.

It's feeling a bit costly already -- having to buy all the flavor carts and disposals, but I have to remind myself that in the long-run it will save me money (and probably my life?).

I am off to read!

Thanks AmandaD.

Even after that, you'll find your tastes change as your taste buds regenerate. Liquids I loved week 1 I couldn't stand by week 8.

Over time, I found my liquid preferences getting less and less sweet, until these days my go-to has no sweet element in it at all (but I am not a fan of sweets to begin with, your mileage will assuredly vary by a lot).

It is overwhelming at first, but you'll find you quickly get the hang of it. There are a ton of options on every single thing you could theoretically use...

I would just order a few cartos - not too many, becaue as others have said your tastes will change really fast. Less than a week after I had my V2 kit I got the Halo Triton kit (bigger battery and tank) and discovered how much more vapor and flavor was in that set up. And then of course I got even more gear as the weeks went on. However, to this day I still take my Triton out and about, because it's so small compared with other mods, and I will still grab it occasionally at home. Halo makes, to my mind, rock solid gear with excellent customer service and warranty.

Since you are in a metro area, find a vape shop and head there ASAP!! Just tell them you are new to vaping and want a good dependable set-up. My first buy was an Innokin Itaste VV/VW V3 paired with a Kanger mini Protank II that my shop recommended. It was and still is excellent!! Most vape shops will let you sample juices so you can find something you like. Keep an open mind as far as flavors. One that "tastes like my cigarettes" is not what you really want. You may pay a bit more to buy a rig in a vape shop, but in the long run, it will save you some serious dough!! Get your vape on!!

About the best advice on here. This is what I did this time. I tried it about a year ago with the cheap starter and did not like it. This time went to a dedicated Vape shop and it is much better. I do feel sorry for those that can't go to a dedicated (boutique for lack of a better word) shop. More knowledgeable, free samples (tasteing) and lots of gear to check out. Folks that actually use the gear and have been doing it for awhile help a lot and this forum is definitely a blessing.

I will tell you my personal experience, which is similar, as I started off with the Blu starter kit that I got at my local Walgreen Drug. I was excited to get it, and it worked well. It kept me from smoking a cigarette for a few days, and let me know that the e-cigarette concept would work to let me quit smoking.

The problem I had with the Blu, and probably with other so-called "cigalike" devices, is that they are small, like a real cigarette, so the battery that powers them is small also. I felt like I was constantly charging and recharging the batteries. Also, I quickly realized that buying the replacement cartridges that go with the Blu would be expensive. Here they are about $3.00, or a five-pack for $15. The label said a cartridge was roughly the equivalent of a pack of cigarettes. I found this was not true, not nearly true in fact.

I found this forum quickly, and like you, I was confused and overwhelmed with all the information and terms, but I was determined not to smoke, and kept on with the Blu while I educated myself.

I decided to get what was recommended by lots of people, an Ego starter kit. It worked very well for me, and is simple and easy to use. I haven't smoked for over two months now.

It comes with everything you need except the juice, two batteries, 2 toppers that you fill with juice, and a charger. With two batteries, you can have one charged and ready to go while you're using the other one. The ego batteries are not as small as a cigarette, because they need more size for power. They are not really large, about the size of a Sharpie marker, and I quickly adjusted to the size.

Here is a link to the starter kit I purchased, from a reliable vendor. If you use the code ECF at checkout, you get 10% off, making the kit about $30:

Kanger EVOD eGo Full Kit - Vaping Me

PS The advice to visit a vape shop in person is good. But be prepared to pay more in a store than if you purchase online. The kit I linked above would be about $60 if I had purchased it at a local store in my city.

Okay, so what you have right now looks like a cigarette. The tube part is the battery and the filter is actually a little atomizer which vaporizes the e-fluid.

For the most part these are weak, produce very little vapor, and have flavor that vary from "acceptable" to "maggot gaggingly bad".

What I have is an iTaste VV3:

with a Kanger Aerotank:

The silver box thing is the actual battery. This model lets me control the voltage that it pumps up to the tank and is rechargeable via USB. The tank holds the actual e-fluid (which I can load up with any flavor I want) and the heating element which vaporizes it. This tank has a little dial on the bottom that allows me to adjust the airflow through it when I inhale.

This lets me produce more vapor and flavor than the cig-like models. It's kind of an electronic hooka.
