I posted earlier about vaping in an attempt to quit chewing tobacco. So far it’s been a huge failure and looking for advice.

Sorry if my terminology is off, but got my starter kit on Tuesday: Vision Ego Clearomizers, ego battery, and a few different types of e-liquid.

So far every liquid I have tried tasted like burnt plastic and chemicals to me. Also I am surprised at how harsh the vapor feels. I can easily power down Marlboro Reds when I don’t have a dip handy, but want to cough after every vapor drag. But the real problem is just the taste / smell, and I have tried a variety of the liquids (RY4, American 55, Raspberry, Menthol). One drag of these flavors makes me want to puke due to taste and smell.

So do you think vaping is just not for me? Need to try a new setup? Need to try different flavors? Honestly I do not really understand the VG/PG thing yet.

Frustrated because I really want this to work........Thanks !!!

Hello and welcome to ecf.

Tell us about your ecig gear and what type of topper you are using and the ejuice too. Like nic strength, pg/vg mix

Usually burnt taste is from no ejuice getting to wicks and coils.

:)
edit sorry--read the post too fast. The vision clearos should be easy to use. Just make sure you have the coils saturated by tilting it every few puffs. Also if you have a vv set it lower.

I'm on a week vaping and 2 days without a cigarette. All the juices I had were a little harsh for me but I stuck with it. Tonight I received juices that are absolutely smooth and don't stab me in the throat when I inhale. You just have to find quality juices, the gas station ones are not great. The juices I got tonight are from Mom and Pop's Vape Shop, and they hit great. Stick with it, you will find what you are looking for.

When i got my first set up i had bad juice. Sounds like you have bad juice!

Id recommend looking at a premium juice maker. Ie mount baker, halo, or alien (google bobbas bounty)

Also a different clearo might help. I moved from a ce4 to a iclear 16 now rocking a kanger t2 and bcc mega, and waiting for a rebuildable to come and a new protank 3... All my tanks have been steady one step up grades and all have made the experience better.

Today i smoked what i hope to be my last analog!!! Good luck!

Ps if your not strapped $$$ wise, look into zamplebox. Its like a juice of the month club. Little more pricey per ml then u can get at some retailers but its gonna give yah a variety

Pg= throat hit and flavor
vg = smoother hit, flavor a little muted.
Combined to give the best of both.
Nic too is harsh on the throat. If you can get to wm and pick up some USP glycerin and some distilled water, you can try to smooth it out a little by add one or two drops into your bottle and shake it well. Easy fix.

Burnt plastic taste sounds like a faulty head. My vaping experience pleasure tripled when I got the MVP and was able to check the ohms of my heads and adjust the voltage accordingly. Could be you're just pumping too many volts into a low ohm head. And the make up of the juice matters as well. I have juice that can only be vaped at 3.4 volts and others that need to be vaped at 4.2 volts. I see no reason why a raspberry flavored juice should be as harsh as you are describing it.

another thing could be the nic content of the flavors... I thought i would need something higher when i switched and boy was i wrong. I got 24mg and could barely even vape at first. Same kinda problems as you. It was HORRIBLE. But i lowered the nic level, and voltage, and now everything is a breeze. When it comes to flavors that's a personal preference to be honest. My daily is ry4 at 12mg. Its one of the only flavors i like. I'm not a big fan of the fruity flavors because i cant stand the "fake" flavor of fruit stuff. But just an idea is maybe tone down the nic content and keep on trying. Also you should "prime" new clearos to make sure the wick is nice and saturated. I normally fill mine and let them sit for an hour or two before i even touch them again. And if you have a variable voltage battery maybe try toning that down as well. just my 2 cents. Hopefully you can figure something out.

Oh and pg= propylene glycol. and vg=vegetable glycerin. pg is more for a "flavorful more harsh hit" where vg is more of a "smoother sweeter hit" normally a mix of 80pg/20vg is what people start at and move from there. If its too harsh maybe try a more 50/50 blend.

Thanks for the quick replies!

Answers to some questions. I have the variable and started with it cranked down and then tried it cranked up. I can only manage a few drags before the taste and smell of "burnt flavored wax" gets to me.

I've tried both clearomizers and hope the coils are not bad in both?

Bought all of my Eliquid from My Vape Store....just picked their most popular. Again hope all the juice I got isn't bad. My nic strength is high at 18, but as heavy dipper I need the nic :)

A friend of mine is coming in from out of town and staying with me for the weekend. She started on Halo G6 and swears that I will like the taste. She is bringing me a battery and some prefilled cartridges. We will see what happens.

Thanks again.

I chewed Copenhagen for 6 years, and like you I could take down a cowboy killer with out giving it a second thought. I'd recently started smoking only, that may have helped in the transition. I started smoking marlboro light menthols. I have chewed/smoked on and off for ~20 years. My wife hated it. I had a cough that started roughly 6-8 months ago. It would wake me and the wife up at night. I have a 16 week old that was sleeping in the room when I would go into a coughing fit in the middle of the night, and It would wake him up too. You want to see a ...... off woman? wake the sleeping baby up at 3am caused by one of your bad habbits... mad as 'H' 'E' double hockey sticks!

I knew a few friends that had started in on vaping in 2012, and through talking to him it was clear that I needed to switch. 3 Months ago I got an E-go grenade mod starter kit and a tobacco flavor, "butter rum". It tasted just like I was smoking a pipe. Only drawback was the amount of vapor I was getting. I don't think the little 400mAh 3.7v batteries were strong enough for the 2.7ohm resistors. I have computer engineering degree from U.S.C. and know a little about electrical circuits and Li-ion batteries. I did a little google research and found that I needed a smaller resistance atomizer. I went with a Kanger II tank (has a glass tank so I can use oil based juice) and (what I would call) disposable atomizers ($2 each, ordered in bulk). I then went with a MUCH larger Li-ion battery and an Iron-man mod. I AM SOOOOO MUCH HAPPIER.

My thoughts on it were if I'm going to make it work I needed to put a little money up front into the product. I've spent about $100 on the set up, and I'm VERY happy with the results. I've tried the "ultra pure" liquids, and they are only slightly better tasting to me. If I'm sitting in my easy chair watching the football game, I use the filtered liquid (cinnamon or light menthol) because it tastes a little difference (cleaner). However, my focus is not on flavor. It's my health. My cough has stopped and my wife and 4 year old don't think I have "stinky breath". I am all around happier, and do not look back at all.

Thanks Post,

The info regarding your setup went way over my head, but researching it now. I've been holding off my Cope cravings with some swedish snus for the last 2 days.

You make a great point about spending some money up front to make it work. I will keep trying until I can find the right setup for me.

A couple of years ago when I tried quitting I did some research on snus and found that they contain no carcinogens. If you can't get your vape grove on snus is good alternative.

Well then, allow me to elaborate.

there are 3 key points that you want to keep in mind.
1.) is actually the big conundrum. Liquid! what flavor, what strength, oil based? that is all personal preference. that comes with time.
2.) power! most solid cell li-ion batteries are 3.7 volts. Some are different or "variable" but 3.7 seems to be common. mAh is mili-amps per hour. this is the battery "life" between charges. 400 is a very small and 4000 is massive. I have two 2000's and two 3200's I vape for 3 days on a 3200. but that life also depends on the resistance of the atomizer and the ammount used.
3.) is the resistance, in the atomizer. in this case think of it as the light bulb. for a 3.7 volt power supply, I would go with either a 1.8 (at a minimum) or a 2.2(which is what I would recommend, less burnt taste and longer lasting atomizers. HIGHER RESISTANCE (ohms) = LOWER AMP draw, in contrast, LOWER RESISTANCE(ohms) = HIGHER AMP draw. it is a ratio which takes some math and is called ohm's law. Amps = Volts/resistance ( or as ohm's law would put it, I = V/R or V = IR or R = V/I) in this formula I = amps, R = resistance / ohms, and V = voltage. since voltage stays the same (unless you change the battery) I is what gets manipulated when you change R.

Keep calm and vape on!

now the set up,

A Kanger II pro-tank is a glass tank which allows for oil juice. I'm still a little unsure of the differences between the two, other than the oil produces a MUCH smoother and fuller cloud of vapor. However, it leaves a tingling/burning sensation on the lips when you come in contact with it. much like a fresh pinch of kodiak oil seeping out onto the lips, then drying.

The iron-man mod is just a button/battery container. think mini-mag light instead of the bulb and beam focuser, you have a glass tank. ie.. the kanger II. It might actually be bigger than my mini-mag light... :p and It doesn't have a glowing button. it just has a metal button, which has ZERO circuity to determine a low voltage, so I only recommend this to someone who has a bit of electrical experience to use a mod like this.

OK, a quick update. I just tried my LAST e-liquid, and I think it tastes decent. Not great but decent.

This one is called Soldiers Blend and in my opinion easily the best out of the 5 I have tried. I am not getting any of the burnt chemical taste I was before. Still using the same clearomizers, and have cleaned / dried them each twice now. There may be hope for me yet !!!!! I am even getting some sweet Cope Straight taste on my lips!!! Haha
