I've had an istick 50 for the last few months and have been very happy. I haven't had any of the issues I've read about here in ecf, but those issues raised by others do have me concerned, wondering if it's just a matter of time before it malfunctions.

I'm thinking it might be good to pick up a backup regulated mod just in case. I'm looking for something small like the istick that ranges from 30w-50w. My builds lately have been anywhere from .5 to 1.4 depending on my mood. I don't anticipate doing nickel builds to take advantage of temperature control is something I'm going to do, unless nickel produces significantly better flavor than kanthal.

Any suggestions?

Lot's of options out there. What's your budget? Replaceable battery or non? If you like the your istick maybe get the 30w version. Not many complaints of defects with those. Mines been great! The price has come down on them too.
Yeah, too many choices!

I'd like to stay under $80.

I just saw there's a coop for the joyetech evic vt. I know I said I wasn't interested in temp control (need to understand it better first), but the mod itself looks so sweet that I think I may go with that one!

That's the one I was going to suggest and you can find it within your budget if you don't get the full kit. It as well as any temp control mods I'm aware of out will work with Kanthal just like a mod without temp control and it does give you the option to try it if you choose.

Aside from temp control it looks sweet, made by a well respected company, battery has 5000mah capacity and it's priced competitively.

I just recently got an IPV mini v2 and really like it. I would get this as a replacement. It goes from 7-70w. only gripe is its a little wobbly when stood up and the 510 can come a bit crooked. I only notice the 510 with really long tanks and i have heard it is fixable. If you just want a back up then the KBOX would prob be good. also, for a non replaceable battery option, ive heard good things about the heatvape defender 30w, or ivader 50w with temp control. the sigelei 50w or 30w are also somewhat higher quality options but still reasonably priced
