It's not the 1930's anymore, information is too freely available for a smoke and mirrors campaign to go unnoticed nowadays. It may take a few years but I have faith that some smart people will start asking what the heck is going on with such disinformation and start calling out the liars that are currently appointed to serve as our public health guardians.
There is a new problem in that, in some ways, there is too much information available, frequently of low quality, and with judicious selection, can support just about any argument you want to make. I mean, lets face it, if it's on the internet, it must be true, right?
Frequently people aren't willing to put in the time and effort to critically review and analyze the information available. Particularly problematic is the inability to judge whether the statistics presented are truly significant. Hardly a new problem and well recognized decades ago in a famous quote, "There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics."
