(I'm sorry, I can't resist)

a Duck waddles into a bar and says to the Barman...

"Got any Grapes?"

The Barman says "no, we only have beer" now go away!

the duck returns a few minutes later and says "Got any Grapes?"

The Barman says "no, I told you, we only have beer" now go away you stupid duck!

the duck returns a few minutes later and says "Got any Grapes?"

The Barman says "ask me again and I'll nail your flippin beak to the bar" now get lost!

the duck returns a few minutes later and says "Got any Nails?"

The Barman is perplexed and says "no"...

The duck says "Good, Got any Grapes?" :D

See, maybe it's just a matter of persistance!

I was working in a library one day, sitting in one of those small rooms doing some research. There was 2 others in the room. After an hour, I was dying to vape. I walked down an aisle where there was no one around, vaped and went back to my seat like nothing happened. No one was the wiser, I was content, no harm, no foul.

Now I am most certain if I went and asked the librarian there if I could smoke in that little room, she would have said no. Lu

Why would you even ask to "SMOKE" in the library?

I wouldn't...and that's my point....just like I don't anywhere else. Doesn't mean I can't vape there though...just means I need to use discretion when doing so.

And to add...sometimes I'm in the library 2 or 3 hours. In the past, because I have my work laptop hooked up there, to go out and have a cig was a nightmare. I virtually had to shut everything down then bring it up to the desk...I could never just leave it sitting on a table somewhere there.

It was really so nice not to have to do that. Life is good!

And maybe that's simply the point. My primary reason for starting ecigs was to get off regular cigs....really for my health. I wasn't concerned if that happened overnight but that definitely was (is) my long term goal. Being able to "smoke" where smoking isn't allowed is at best, secondary to me. I suppose that is why I have no particular need to flaunt them in places where it may not be acceptable. I've made a choice to vape discreetly to ensure I can continue vaping where I want, rather than flaunt it and possibly lose the ability to do so altogether. But that's just me; I suppose others have their own agenda.

Now I am most certain if I went and asked the librarian there if I could smoke in that little room, she would have said no. And I am pretty sure if I just started puffing out billows of smoke, one of those others in the room would have complained. So instead, I decided to go do my thing because my goal was to satisfy my need for nic...period.

It isn't about being scared or a coward. I would openly vape walking down the street because I know it's not going to be an issue. I vape in peoples' homes who don't mind it. But for me, I refuse to flaunt it where I might be asked to put it away or go outside. For me, that would defeat my whole purpose of getting my nic when I needed it.

But I guess for others, they have a different purpose for vaping. So hey, do what ya gotta do. But please, don't refer to me (or others who feel the same way) as cowardly or scared (or whatever terms have been thrown out there) when all I'm doing is trying to ensure my need for nic gets fulfilled with the least bit of hassle possible.

What you call flaunting, I call open use.

So wait, if I'm eating one of those cigarette shaped gums with the talc you can blow out, I can't use it in a non-smoking establishment because it is similar to a cigarette? I look at vaping in public as completely fine. I'm not going to blow giant cloud in someone's face but I don't feel the need to treat my personal vaporizer as a cigarette. Simply put it's not a cigarette. If the proprietor of a place is worried about people being stupid enough to confuse an LED lit device as a cigarette, I'll offer to stand up and loudly proclaim it's not a cigarette, and it's not smoke and it's not tobacco.

It's not my fault people don't like that it looks like I'm smoking and frankly, I don't care what they think, because I'm not smoking. The ban doesn't apply to personal vaporizers, and until it does I'll vape where ever. If some manager or owner wants to throw me out, so be it. I'll just take my patronage somewhere else. I'm not doing anything illegal.

To your first rediculous example: yes you can use the gum in a non-smoking area. Its gum, and it looks like gum. The gum does not have what appears to be a filter, and a long body that looks like tobacco rolled in paper, and it does not glow (in ANY color) at the end. Furthermore, talc does not have anywhere near the same effect when exhaled that vapor or smoke does.

Secondly, the fact that you do look at vaping in public as fine, is not the issue. We all believe, at some level, that it is fine. The issue is public perception.

Third, thats great if you dont feel the need to treat your PV as a cigarette. As I've said before, the public is doing that for you. So "simply put", it doesnt matter that its NOT a cigarette. See my first paragraph, and then couple that with what I just said about public perception.

Fourth, Its not about people being "stupid" enough to confuse anything. The first time I vaped in my office next to a co-worker (with blue tip), all she kept saying is "your smoking!" You have to understand, the vapor looks SO similar to smoke, and people are not acustom to our PV's. So their COMMON SENSE, not STUPIDITY...dictates that if they see smoke (vapor), you must be smoking. Again my friend, perception.

Fifth, no its not your fault that it looks like smoking. And your right, you shouldnt care. Until it starts to have negative results. And I wonder, would you proudly vape on Trogs Screwdriver in front of a policeman, and then get all rightouse about how just because it looks like a marijuanna smoking device, it ISNT... and you dont care what the cop thinks, so stop bothering you!? I mean, what would you expect? It doesnt look like a cigarette, a cigar, or a pipe... there is "smoke" coming out of your mouth, the officers common sense is going to dictate that he needs to question you about the device you are using. Perception.

Sixth, thats all well and good that if you get thrown out, you'll just go somewhere else. That could make for a long night, and a lot of unnessessary bar hopping.

Lastly, no you are not doing anything illegal. But your blatent rebellious attitude, of "I'll vape anywhere I please smoking ban be damned, until told not to!" may very well add to PV's demise. Perception! Once PV's become more recognised in the public, people are going to start recalling their run-in's with vapers. And how "these people think they can use these things anywhere". Next thing you know, you'll be vaping at home because the owners of establishments will put up the "NO VAPING" signs. And thats THEIR right.

I have not seen one post anywhere that says, we should go where the smokers go when we vape. I am saying, just dont vape where the smokers cannot smoke, until the publics PERCEPTION has changed. Your attitude is not helping to establish that change.

pete, you are way to timid about vaping. If someone thinks your smoking that's their fault if they question you, you can inform them differently. The only people you have to respect is business owners and employees if they say no go out side its not hard. It isn't smoking so no we don't have to say away from places smokers can't smoke. It doesn't pose a health risk to those around us. You don't need to be a ****** about doing it in public, if someone has a problem with it explain it to them and move on.

pete is rude, and I can't respect someone who is afraid to stand up for himself. I am sick of his defeatist attitude.

Could you kindly point out where I was rude marcb???? And I am also not seeking YOUR respect, furthermore, I am not afraid to stand up to myself. Can you also kindly point out anywhere in ANY of my posts that indicate being "defeated", rather than simply being non-confrontational, respectful, knowledgable, and considerate of the current laws regarding smoking???
