So I should be getting my Bartleby any day now, really looking forward to it. Uses one 14500 battery, which is chargeable via USB->miniUSB and can be used as a passthrough. Now if I have this plugged in to a USB wall or car adapter, it will be powered by the battery contained in the Bartleby, which will be getting charged through the AC or DC adapter, right? Cybervex said the 400mah adapters I bought would work fine, but just making sure I am understanding correctly how it will work (ie always powered by the battery regardless of plugs).

Obviously if it doesn't use the battery for power while plugged in, I'll need higher powered adapters, but I assume when Cybervex says those will work fine, that he means they are only for charging. Don't think 400mah would cut it for vaping. 8-o

Well I got my Bartleby today, but the 4.2v dc 400maH, AC->USB adapter I bought doesn't seem to be working properly, despite Cybervex telling me the specs on it were fine for use with the Bartleby. The DC->USB adapter I got in the same kit for the car, which is rated 5v dc 400maH, works perfectly.

Plugged directly into the computer's USB port the red charging LED on the Bartleby stays on, same with the DC adapter, but if I plug into the AC adapter the light flashes once when I plug it in, then stays off.

Sent Cybervex an email, as although this isn't a problem with the Bartleby, I figured he might know best if the battery is getting a charge or not despite the light being off. Would like to know if I'm going to be sol trying to charge this thing at work with the current adapter though, so any ideas?

*NOTE* - This is NOT a problem with the Bartleby, it's a problem with my adapter. The Bartleby itself is awesome, and I'm already thoroughly impressed with it's performance despite my issue with aftermarket accessories.

I just heard back from Cybervex, and figured I'd update this thread in case others run into any similar problems. The charge chip in the Bartleby requires 4.35v to 6.5v, so my 4.2v 400maH AC->USB adapter doesn't output enough power to charge the Bartleby. Obviously not an issue with the Bartleby, I just bought the wrong adapter. Luckily, the DC adapter included in the kit (which I bought at Staples) works perfectly, and it came with a neat little double-retractable usb->miniusb cable, so I'm just gonna hang onto it and pick up a standalone ac charger.

So if you're looking for an AC->USB adapter for your Bartleby, make sure it has an output of at least 4.35v up to 6.5v.

I did not get the cable that Cybervex sells with his Bartleby's and have been useing a charging cable for a PS3 controller USB to mini USB and when vaping the red charge light come's on when the button is pressed BUT after using the mod without the cable plugged in for a few hours and then plugging it in it does not charge the battery no red light. I know the battery need's charging and when I take the battery out of the mod and put it in the wall charger I have it does charge just fine. I'm also useing a dell xps m1330 laptop. So I ask is it the cable or is it the laptop or is it a problem with the mod?

Please Advise as to if I need a new cable or a more powerful usb port

(EDIT)
BTW just got the mod today so I'm not sure if there may be something I just don't understand about how it charge's.

(EDIT)
Update #1 It's not the computer just tryed it on a friends desktop and no red light without button pressed. I did see the red light flash when I plugged it in, but it also flash's when plugged into my laptop.

I thought I was having this issue too, but I think it comes down to the battery charges much faster than I'm used to, and lasts much longer as well. I used my Bartleby for 8 hours at work, plugged it in when I got home, and went to take a shower. Half an hour later the light was still on (first time I've seen it stay on for more than a minute or so), but it went off about 10 minutes after that. Used the same battery all day yesterday, then switched batteries. Plugged the first one back in before I went to bed, and the light was on when I went to bed. Woke up in the morning, light off, battery charged.

Here is what I asked Cybervex, and his response. If this doesn't help with understanding the charging cycle, I apologize: (this is from email conversation, but I put it into vB quotes for ease of reading)

Is the red LED supposed to stay on when it's charging, or does it just stay on for 10 seconds or so when you plug it in and after you push the button? If it's supposed to stay on, I'm having some weirdness with the box when plugged into the car adapter or even when plugged directly into my USB (so nothing to do with the underpowered AC adapter), however it seems to be charging properly because I haven't run out of power yet. ~Joe

Red light (Charge status) while plugged in:
- ON = charging
- OFF = Fully charged or not plugged in
- While plugged in and fully charged the Red light will come on when you
vape. Depending on the length of the hit the red light may stay on to
replenish the draw on the battery.

I had a hard time believing my batteries were lasting as long as they are and charging as quick as they do, but I think it comes down to the fact that it's just a great device, and as others have experienced with PCC's, USB charging works much quicker than a wall charger.

However, if your red LED never stays on, and only flashes, you may want to look at what voltage is going into them. Maybe there's a problem with the cable you're using (a built in resistor or something) that is lowering the voltage to below 4.35 volts, which would be the same problem I had with my AC adapter, in that it wasn't high enough voltage to charge the Bartleby. I had the same flash of the red led and then nothing when using that AC adapter, so I wouldn't be surprised if it's that.

If your battery is fully charged, it also flashes when plugged into a properly working USB port. As far as battery staying on to recharge after one draw, I've never experienced that, it seems to charge faster than I can vape, as the only time the light stays on is when I've had it unplugged for a while. The only other thing I could think of is not likely, but if both your computer and your friend's computer are set up to only provide USB power to installed devices or something like that (ie plugging in the Bartleby doesn't initiate any installation on the computer, so no power is provided to the port). I say this is probably unlikely because I have a brand new Asus laptop running Vista 64-bit, and I've never experienced this on it or any other computer (although I never used too many uninstalled usb devices).

CTdopeLove Your right on the money. I ran the device for about 6 hour's of heavy vapeing unplugged and just plugged it in and it's charging with the red light bright as the sun. It's just too bad I got this as a gift for a friend because testing it made me fall in love. Now I need one for my self.

Great device Cybervex !
