Basic Ohms Law Info - Calculating Power and Volts

I thought I would share a little bit about ohms law. This is useful for vapers with variable voltage and /or wattage mods to know what settings to choose.

Basically ohms law is the relation of voltage, current and resistance. Voltage is is "potential" of a power source. The more potential, the higher the voltage. 4.0 volts is higher potential than 3.2 volts. Current is the rate of electron flow. The faster the flow, the higher the current rating expressed in amperes or milliamperes. .001 amp is 1 milliamp. Resistance is the opposition to electron flow. The more resistance a path has, the more opposition or resistance to electron flow. Power (P) is the energy consumed in doing a the work of an electrical device. It is expressed in Watts. The higher the Watts, the more energy consumed.

Mathematically ohms law is expressed as I (current) = V (voltage) / R (resistance).
P (power) = V * I or P (power) = V squared / R.

For vapers we would know a resistance (R) and (P). If I have a 2.0 ohm coil and I am using 4.0 volts, then I would calculate the Power by: 4.0 *4.0 =16 16 / 2 = 8watts.

To solve for voltage, the formula transposed is: Voltage = the square root of R * P. Example: What voltage do I use to get 8 watts with a 2.0 ohm coil? 2.0 * 8 = 16 The square root of 16 = 4. I would use 4.0 volts with a 2.0 ohm coil to get 8 watts.

It is harder to see this without the superscripts and square root symbols. However the basics is here. Though we don't really need to know current, I stated it above just to show a basic overview of ohms law.

Hope this is a help to some who like to play with math and vape at the same time.:)
