I bought these batteries thinking they had PCB protection because that what it said. I even ask,ed the U.S. seller if they were protected and he said yes. It says on the batteries themselves that that have Re/Discharging Protection Circuit but if there is it has to be on the positive end of the batteries. I uploaded some pics. Can anyone tell me if the PCB protection has sometimes been on the positive end of the battery and what they think of these batteries whether or not the likely hood of them having PCB protection. Thanks.

I'd be careful, there have been "fake" ultrafires making the rounds.

Here's a random pic, note the dimple in the covering around the negative end where the protection is:

See if you can feel an edge at the bottom end with a fingernail, although I'm not sure of a way to tell for sure without peeling the covering off. Vendors tend to not like taking things back if you do this.

Here's some fakes someone on a flashlight forum found:

Note the mismatched markings

Warning on Ultrafire's website: http://www.ultrafire-shop.net/page3.php

I'd add "random ebay person" onto the list, myself.

Add to this that Ultrafire themselves sell an unprotected version of the battery. This whole thing makes me feel like it's better to avoid that particular brand entirely. I don't like to muck around with things that can explode in my hand/face.

.

I got two fakes w/ the same markings as the photo from one of the vendors listed on the ultrafire shop page (Dino Direct). Luckily I only suffered one burned finger on a failure. A clue to the fakery was the longer size battery that didn't fit the two battery chargers I own. Probably because the battery protection was added to non protected batteries. Also the markings under the wrapper indicate that it is a Sony 2200mah non protected battery and the wrapper indicated a protected 3000mah battery.
I would avoid these batteries like the plague.

how about a new modding forum sub-forum for battery questions? that way the mods section isnt overloaded with repetitive questions about punchy's ultrafires even after he was warned off of them continuously.

I see his battery posts on so many threads, I am going to have nightmares....lol

Nobody asked you to post on my thread so don't. Especially if your not going to help with any type of answer. Maybe this is why I continue to ask battery questions because of people leaving a wealth of knowledge in their replies like yours.

punchy, maybe you make your own thread about everything you concerned? Will be more convenient to answer you. Everyday a few new topics with insignificant questions - everyone lost... :)

I guess I should have just been more simplistic in my question...Is there ever the possibility of PCB protection being located on the positive end? I would ask all my questions in one post but I can not see into the future. If you think my question was insignificant then there is no need to post a reply especially since your reply wasn't in the least bit helpful.

Although it was answered above with pictures, I'll spell it out: No.

You could keep them all to a single *thread* however. Call it "Punchy's eBay Knockoff Battery Thread" or something.
