Hey all. Thanks to V4L, I'm on my sixth day analog free. V4L - for all you do, this vape's for you!

One question I have is regarding the standard 808 manual batteries and the USB passthrough that came in my kit. What are the expected lifespans of these items. I currently have 3 batteries and one passthrough and would like to think that I could get a year or so out of them but am I being too optimistic? Thanks for your replies.

Yes you are,I plan on getting 2-4 months out of them.If your lucky they may last longer.I look at it this way, buying cartos and juice plus one battery per month is still a better deal than smoking cigs.Plus make sure you have backup batts and an extra charger so that you dont have a problem if something breaks.

I dont mean to say that they wont last a year,I just say dont plan on it.Get one or two with your orders here and there because they dont give you warning they just die.You dont want to be short.

Well first of all congrats on day 6! I still have one of two of my first kit batteries and p/t after 6 months of flawless use. Best thing I can advise you to do to keep your cost down is get blank cartos and juice. As time goes by, inevitably you will buy more batteries. So...realistic...unrealistic to last a year on 3 batts and p/t...yeah, I'd say realistic. Probability you will buy more batteries....very high, even though your current batteries are working just fine.

Hook up a banner with a counter and I will bet within the next 45-60 days you will saved on your initial investment, from that point forward the savings grows exponentially...for some of us.

I have some batteries that are a year old and they still work but they are the short-cutoff versions so I don't use them very often. I've had pretty good luck with my XL batteries; they are workhorses.

My experience with the passthru's has been a very different story. I've had a few that lasted for months and months but others stopped working after only a couple of weeks. It's a real crap shoot.

Tracker II, Yup, stock up... words of wisdom! And it's not that the technology of the batts and PT aren't the best, they are!!! But rather it's life. I've dropped and killed (or wounded at least) batteries, lost them, got juice in autos and killed the switch and some just fizzle out... they're man made. Being a power source is the life blood of the e-cig -- ya just got to have plenty.

And congrats on day 6, keep it up!!!

i had the same question when i started....how long to break even with these equipment costs? how much will i spend vaping? that sort of thing.

the truth? many on this forum have batteries that have lasted 8 months to a year and even longer. the real question is "will you still be using them regularly after that long?" think of it this way....now that you have quit cigarettes, you *get* to buy new equipment more often!

if you are like me, you will get into the technology. this tech is in its infantcy and there are improvements made weekly to airflow/cutoff/battery life. you will want to buy newer batteries and more of them as the technology improves. you will find yourself using the newst equipment and relegating the older stuff as "backups"

Thanks everyone for your input. I didn't realize that batteries and passthroughs had such short life spans but, even so, with the high cost of analogs in my area, there is no question that I will still come out ahead.

I'm not doing the banner thing, but I will keep a "first year" spreadsheet showing costs by date and category (bats, carts, juice) and comparing it to savings from analogs. Should be interesting.

Thanks again.

I am not sure I even want to know what I have spent in the last month!!!! And at this moment, I don't care! I haven't had a cig in 3 weeks and I thought I would smoke till the day I died. I think that once I get the right juices and the hang of things, I'll save money, but not smoking is huge and for now, I am happy with that.

I spent a TON initially. I probably have 100 batts around in various stages of excellence. There's a little octopus of chargers on a power strip in the hall and it's always full. When I feel casual, I vape a carto until it's cooked and toss it away. When I feel frugal I keep one carto going w/frequent juice-ups for days on end. On weekends I mix up lovely exotic juice combos from my ridiculous stash of flavors. It's true that life-span of batts is variable - my silver logo x-long batt is still going strong - that was from very early on. My newest purple one pooped out after a month. It's twin is just fine. Go figure. The main thing is that I haven't smoked a cigarette since the day I skeptically ripped open that first little bubbly-wrapped V4L envelope, and I'd been doing 3-4 packs a day for 40 years, and had tried everything. A total breeze. So go for it, stock up, and best of luck! (PS, I still weigh 105, and now I gallop up and down stairs without getting winded, the wheeze and tug of burnt-up lungs is long gone, and I forget what it is to have to go stand in the snow in the middle of a leisurely restaurant meal. Everyone I've turned onto these has quit, too. Not smoking is indeed huge, and it just gets better.)

Technology? Heck, what about all the pretty battery colors. You should have one to match every outfit is my moto. :)

Seriously though, we've had our batteries for going on 6 months now and only had a proble with 2 of them...a passthru and a manual. Both of then went kaput within a couple months and V4 was outstanding with the ease of getting them replaced.
