Hi All,

I use a smok Alien 220w with the TFV8 Baby tank and 2x Samsung 30Qs.

I've read on here the amp rating for these batteries is 20.

I used a standard 0.4 ohm single coil, amps around 10/11 according to the device (55W). Coil looked abit worse for wear so put in the Octacoil that came with the tank (0.15ohm) and run it at 60W. The amps, according to mod, were running at 22. Now, my question is, having the 2 batteries does that mean 40amps is the limit or is that coil putting too much strain on batteries by being over 20?

Sorry if seems a daft question, it's a new mod and first were I've used external batteries.

So to be safe I've switched onto my RBA at 0.22Ohm and 15Amps (52W) until I know.

Thanks.

When it comes to vw devices resistance doesn't matter. You calculate the amp draw thusly:

Watts (+10% to account for chip inefficiency) / battery cutoff voltage = amps

So for 60w the draw is:

66 / 5.6 (two batteries in series so the voltages are doubled*, and the Alien discharges to an uncharacteristically low 2.8v) = 11.8 amps

So you're fine with 20 amp batteries. The amp meter on mods usually shows the amps at the atomizer, which differs from battery amp draw (and is useless information).

* in a parallel vw mod the voltages aren't doubled but the amps are instead divided by the number of batteries.

Had to read that a couple of times but I finally understand! Thanks.

So, technically, I'm safe up to around 115W no matter what resistance coil I use? I'll never go that high, tried 85 once and that was too much for me, also I really value battery life.

Thank you again for the information.

In order to stay within the continuous discharge current of the batteries you should stay at 110 w or below. But yes, resistance doesn't matter.
