Does anyone know of a good rechargeable USB battery to use with a 5v 510 PT? I simply don't want to use a stock voltage device anymore and I feel that combining the PT I already own with a rechargeable battery is the best and cheapest way to go.

I recently bought (and returned) the Duracell Instant Power Charger for USB devices. It claimed that it had 5v output but apparently did not, because when I attempted to use the PT with the battery the LED on the PT would blink like it wasn't getting enough power.

Any suggestions?

No lithium battery I know of is rated at 5volt. Putting the standard lithium battery inline would output 3 or 3.7 volts. Which fully charged these actually start a little higher than their rated voltage. If a battery isn't required, USB is already 5volt. I personally would not recommend vaping directly off your PC but you could use a AC adapter with USB output or a powered USB hub. I actually use a USB hub that isn't connected to my PC, it's only connected to AC to power the port.

I've been using my PT with my MacBook, my PC, and the computers at work for about a month now with no problems, is it really a terrible idea to do this? It seems like some people on this forum are wary of using a PC for power but are there actually any reported cases of people burning out their motherboards with a 5v PT?

I recall two instances where a port was burnt and maybe one motherboard a long time ago, iirc. Jim Davis has explained how it can happen. It's a thing of probability - iow, why chance it when you can run it off a usb wall plug that goes for $2-5?

Here's one mod solution, btw:

And retail:
5 Volt 510 Manual USB Passthrough

Would the Kensington Portable Power Pack work for me? (I'd post a link to the Amazon but I don't have enough posts yet.) In the amazon reviews somebody mentions using it with a PT but doesn't say whether its a 3.7v or 5v PT.

From the specs: Input: 5VDC (Mini USB) -1.00A Max -- Output: 5VDC (USB) – 1.40A Max Unit Dimensions: 4.0" x 2.2" x 0.37" Capacity: 7Wh (Watt-hours) No external batteries required.

Would this supply enough power for the 5v PT from MadVapes?

A friend of mine used the kensington and had a lot of problems with it but I am sure that others might have not. I think that a pass through actually needs a good 1.5 to 2.0 amps to work best.

3.7v PT's have an inline 10440 battery whereas the 5v do not. It depends on what voltage you want to vape. Are you looking for a portable power supply or will something that plugs into the wall or you car cig light due as well?

Yes it would. And many here has modded the 510 PT removing the in line battery in order to achieve the 5Volt and in order to use it on the Kensington. Col. Gaunt is right in that at least 1 - 2 amps is advised - I advise people getting 1amp+ usb plugs even for the 510 because it is likely that they'll get something later on that needs it more than the 510 with the inline batt does.

That kensington should work just fine..there are several V4L people using it for their 5V KR8 PTs...
what you wanna check actually is the mA requirement of the PT versus what the mA output rating on the power pack is... I know that the kensington output is 1.5 A (1500 mA) ...ones like the duracell only push 500 mA...the requirements of most PTs are around 1000 mA nominal with sometimes a peak start up of 1200mA..
