I have had MANY instances where packages from overseas tracked great into customs, had an 'outbound' notification from customs, and that was the last report on tracking until magically it arrived at my house and later that night the tracking list would update, and populate with the last hub, and delivery location. That's it.

I wouldn't be too alarmed just yet - most of my packages that come through customs usually sit there for 1-5 days before they get sent on their way. If tracking does hold - you'll get an outbound message here before long and can keep track of it for the last leg of its journey :)

Take care,
- Hap

I just ordered a couple of things last night. From vendors in the U.S. This was near the bottom of he shipping notices I got today.

For orders shipped via USPS please remember that USPS only provides a Delivery Confirmation number which is typically only updated after the delivery has been attempted or completed.

Hope it gets to you soon.

USPS does that all the time, even on priority or express mail: It shows has having been received/routed at the initial city of shipment, then you see no changes until after it's already sitting in front of you, when suddenly the entire history of travel across the country appears.

Near as I can figure out, they had a very good tracking system database, and still do, but not the same one they had when they set up the web tracking, and they're not synchronized except when tracking starts and ends. So the database the web tracking is working from only gets updated twice, once when the item enters the delivery chain, and again when it leaves it. In between, it's in the *real* tracking system the USPS uses.

Once upon a time about a decade ago, I wrote an inventory tracking software system for moving order totes around a multi-building fulfillment house, which is a similar problem on a smaller scale. It created a problem for the shippers, who could only see when we started assembling their customer's orders, and when we finished and kicked it out the door to FedEx/UPS, but not the detailed progress in between, because my new system was incompatible with the web front end they were working through.

On the specific question here: If USPS has it in their system, it isn't stuck in Customs, because they don't get it until after Customs is done with it. Your package is almost certainly on a truck somewhere between NY and you.
