Hello. Long time reader here, finally decided to join. I've quit analogs 2 month today and been advancing pretty fast from joytech ego one (which I hated) to istick 50w, subtanks and finally purchased and ipv3 li and an atty3 rda.
Sorry for the long post but here it goes.
Before getting the ipv3 li I ordered 4 sony vtc5 18650s from amazon. When picking up the ipv3 the store owner pointed out that my batteries are 100% fake and apparently even for him it took over 3 month to find a supplier that was selling legitimate vtc5s. I wasn't surprised and requested a return right away. In a twist the amazon seller, while approving the return, starts reassuring me that the batteries are legit. What do you guys think?
Here is their response:
We only sell Authentic product as per Amazon's Seller Policy.

We have undergone nearly 5 reviews in the past year from Amazon's quality control department, and have been approved to list the VTC5.

I have authorized your request for returning the product in case you are not convinced/unsure.

Additionally, here is a brief background of the thorough testing process for our product: The test data such as A/C impedance matching + discharge rate, charge hold, and voltage tests to verify the authenticity of the batteries.

I'm not sure what expertise, credentials, or authority the person(s) that informed you about batteries being "fake" have. These batteries are intended for use with oem products and are manufactured with Sony VTC5 lithium ion cells, as verified by the rohs and ul certifications. Both documents have been sent to the Amazon seller performance team prior to listing for sale and upon verification have been allowed to be listed here on Amazon. Again, the batteries we sell are original OEM manufactured VTC5s.

Hopefully our good faith effort to ensure your satisfaction will allow for the rapid processing of your return. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to send us a message.

Thank you so much for the message. Have a wonderful evening.

Here is pictures of the batteries. The one on the left is from amazon and on the right from the vape shop.

The one on the right matches the genuine VTC5's I have. Here are pictures of a genuine VTC5...check the top against yours.

[edit] why it split my attachments like that I have no idea, sorry for the confusion, all are VTC5 shots.

OK, just my personal opinion but that statement is very suspect...

RoHS certification just states that the batteries don't contain lead and other restricted materials. I think just about every Li-Ion battery, good or bad, is RoHS compliant.

UL certification, the UN38.3 safety tests that need to be done in order to certify that the batteries are safe to ship, has absolutely nothing to do with whether the battery is a genuine VTC5 or whether it performs to any level whatsoever.

Thanks Mooch. I'm now wondering if the shop owner was just trying to discourage me to buy stuff online and buy it from his store instead.

Not impossible. After being on the forum for awhile you will frequently know more about vaping than vape shop employees (and owners).

ETA: I buy all my batteries from RTD Vapor.

Not yet. I want to be sure they are fakes before causing seller inconvenience.

You appear to be more considerate than I am. If there is even the slightest question of authenticity I would return them. I don't care about inconveniencing a seller on Amazon.

+1 I would rather have legit batteries then my mod blowing up in my face/mouth. That would be an inconvenience. That's why I took moochs' advice and sent for new bats and will phase out my others lol.
