Battery wrap

The wrap on the top of my brand new (3 week old) 18650 is peeling off, what can I do? As far as I know this aint safe.

You would Re-Wrap it.

Just pick up some Shrink Sleeves and some Insulator Rings and get busy with a Blow Dryer.

They have lots of colors so that a battery that was green or brown will remain green or brown! I got some sleeves from another supplier and they didn't match the original color. Now I have two red mystery batteries that I think are 2500 mAh but I forgot the labeled amp capacity (as if that is to be believed). I tried writing on the sleeve with a sharpie, but it quickly wore off. Maybe next time I should mark it and put scotch tape over the markings.

I hate transparent/clear battery wraps because it's hard for me to quickly see if there are any blemishes & tears.

And sharpie writing, like you said, wears off the sleeve.

But fasttech sells translucent colored battery wraps which are easier to see if they are damaged/torn.

So what I do is I use thin tracing paper to make labels (using black sharpie), then I wrap the battery with the colored translucent sleeve with the thin label underneath it. The tracing paper is thin so it doesn't cause any issues (for my mods) and no chance of it wiping of, of course.

Sure you can use a Dymo Label maker, but I don't have one and I think those labels are thicker than tracing paper.

You guys are reminding me I have half a dozen batterys I have set aside because they need rewrapping. Man I hate doing it. LOL

I always use a sharpie to put the date I purchased the battery on and also mark as "A" or "B" (for pairs) or "1","2","3","4". I use a piece of scotch tape over it to keep it from rubbing off.

I personally don't worry about making sure I wrap the battery with the same color as it's original OEM wrap. Colors are better for quicker, at-a-glance ID, though.

But to each his own, though.
