Being the meticulous person I am, I attempted to clean my vaping materials. I cleaned my box out, wiped all of my eliquid bottles off, took the tray out of my case & washed it, and cleaned the case. The next activity on the agenda was to give my cartridges and atomizers an alcohol bath.

THAT'S where the problem came in. I was distracted and placed one of my batteries in the alcohol bath. I didn't even realize it until I was swishing everything around a few minutes later.

Oy vey! I'm hoping that it will still work. I have it drying in a well-ventilated area with the rest of the items.

If you've never done this, think of my error so that you never do. If you've done it please tell me that the battery worked afterward!!

I haven't done that, but I washed one in the washing machine.....all cycles....and it's fine. It was an eGo battery. I hope the one you did that with was a manual. But then, hopefully the switch didn't get soaked. I'll be waiting to hear if this one came through. What kind of battery is it? eGo? 510? 808?

Inquiring minds want to know. Ha. That's what you get for being a neat freak.........ha. Good luck with it. I'll bet you won't do that again, huh?

    Merry Christmas.

The battery should work afterward. Alcohol is a considered a non-conductor and the problem with electronics come in contact with water is that it causes shorts. Most people think water touches something electronic it breaks, but thats just an old myth. As long as its off at the time, there should be no problem. There are even some liquids you can fully submerge electronics in and they continue to work. A lot of special liquids for liquid cooling systems in computers are non-conductive for this exact reason.

Now if you used something like vodka, you might have some problems. But rubbing alcohol, or pure ethanol would be just fine ;) Just leave it out for a night, alcohol evaporates fairly quickly. You can also place them in some rice as it acts as a desiccant.

I'm sure lots of people won't agree with me, but I'm not a fan of constant cleaning.

I make up 7ml bottles of juice and vape 2 of them every 10 days or so. When I change to a new batch, I change the atty and cart, and rinse the old atty in hot water, and change the cart filler. That's it. I don't clean the atty in between, or do nightly soaks. I just leave it alone and vape.

In the beginning, I tried alcohol baths, dry burns, etc. Doesn't seem to make much difference. I've been vaping for 5 months with my original 5 attys, and they're all still working perfectly.

    Lol. Sorry to hear/read that.

You didn't specify the type of alcohol. I hope it was ISO, not PGA/vodka. The ISO will eventually dry/evaporate away cleanly. Wait extra long tho, it still has a small % distilled water in it. The alcohol evaporation should carry the water with it, but YMMV. If it is vodka, or other drinkable alcohol, it has sugar in it.......... could be ugly. If I use alcohol at all, it's 91+% Isopropyl. Also, some people call this "rubbing alcohol" but be careful: rubbing alcohol can also be sold with oils in it and should not be vaped. It should have an ingredient list of: Isopropyl alcohol and water (nothing else).

Also, atties are disposable items and they do wear out. I love it when people brag that they use the same atty for XX months. Bah! Suggest you get a new atty per month with your supply order and you will be a LOT happier (FYI - I still clean em out and keep em: Blow em out daily, clean with water or ISO 91% or better if needed).

    Happy Holidays and good luck!

LOL, I went *really* simple with the "care and feeding" of my pv. I switched to cartomizers. I used to "blow out" my attys every night. Don't have to do that anymore. I just refill my carto with juice as needed, and when it starts to taste funky, it goes in the trash and I pull out a new one. Once a day I wipe down the metal threads of carto and battery. I'm good to go.

Hey, that's exactly what I do! I can't wait to move on to an indestructible self-juicing box mod.

    Thanks for the input everyone!!!

Not only was I not cleaning a big fancy ecig, I was cleaning one of the disposable Qcig 510s in my avatar. That's why I figured it would be a lost cause. However, I'm pleased to report, that it was fine. I left it in a well-vented area along with everything else that was in the alcohol bath.

It works as well as it did in the first place...whew! I can't afford to buy "real" hardware until mid-January.

On a side note, I don't clean everyday, etc... It had been 3 weeks and I vape like a fiend, so I thought I'd spruce up the stuff.

Okay, my final update for this situation: Despite the fact that I accidentally immersed my disposable Qcig 510 battery in alcohol for several minutes, it indeed worked. It's still working a week later. As a matter of fact, it's working BETTER than it was in the first place: the auto shut-off feature stopped working.

I was telling my hubby about it and his suggestion was to put my other disposable in alcohol to see if it would stop the auto-shut off feature on that one. LOL I'm not going to do that, though. With my luck, that battery would fizzle out and never work again.

I wouldn't recommend it, but I'm glad that it worked out well! :vapor:
