The short answer is that that 11.5” of rain falls over a wide area. The ground, and obviously paved and built up areas, can’t absorb that much water in a short period of time. The water flows downhill to the lowest point and collects there (flood plains) while it slowly makes its way into river channels and eventually (usually) on out to sea.

That makes sense -- and most of SC is "the low country" so it collects very easily. That was one hell of a hurricane, even if it didn't make landfall on the continent, a category 4 hurricane brings a LOT of rain with it!

That's a lot, "trailers" and states. What states, aside from Hawaii and Alaska, have you not been to? Places like Vermont must be nice because you can tic them off your list in under 5 minutes.

Dunno if you've noticed, but I've pretty much covered coast to coast. Been a little more selective lately.

Really I've been more focused on other things and more and more apprehensive about rolling down the road holding up a phone everywhere.

But I'm hoping I catch more of those scenes I was regretting missing.

How could you not notice how much you get around! You've only missed a couple of states. Don't blame you about being leery of snapping pics everywhere, or having your face out there. I admire people like Andria who've let it all hang out there to help other people. Takes a lot of guts.

I've been online, in one way or another, since 1989 -- amateur BBSs then, pre-WWW -- and for a very long time, I used the "handle" (screen name) "Carmilla." And it was a useful tool when I was doing "adult" websites. But once I stopped doing those and started doing "regular" websites, I decided to use my real name; ditto that when I got on social media. My feeling is, I don't post anything that I would be ashamed to say out loud in public, so I might as well use my real name.
