DC traffic always sucks. Unless you are driving out of the city while everyone is driving in. Notice the lack of traffic in the other direction... Just have to time it out perfectly.

But then ..... Nope. Always sucks!

Yep! I drive between SE PA and NE FL on a regular basis. Traffic around DC (really as far south as Richmond and as far north as Baltimore) got me going the back way many years ago. Southbound I head west to I81, down to I77, to I26, and don't get on I95 until the middle of South Carolina. If there are no traffic snarls around DC at all, the back way does take an hour longer, but the stress level is far lower.

Doesn't look too bad; it's similar to rush hour here in Lawrenceville (25 miles NE of ATL)... This is Atlanta rush hour:

That's the Perimeter, and it looks like that, all the way around the city, pretty much constantly between 3:30pm and 7pm. Or later, if someone decides to get creative.

Yeah, we don't really have separate "towns", per se... just a 9-county metro area. Atlanta is sorta like LA with the sprawl, except without mountains, canyons, and ocean to hold it back.
