Maureen

We love you and we are glad you are back. You are in the right place for encouragement. Honey, you CAN do this. You know you can. Cigs are bad, and even after you have one, the problem is still there, but you also have the joy of beating yourself up for smoking. On the otherhand, doublemint gum and gummy bears are yum. And if you vape some, there is no guilt, and you can spend your precious energies on focussing on what you need to do.

I know you can do this. You inspired ME to do this. I'm now cig free (as in 100%, not a single puff here and there despite my husband still being a smoker) for 7 months. In between I've had a nasty car accident, trashed my neck, been hospitalised twice, had a sick child, comforted my 16 year old daughter through the murder of one of her best friends and dealt with my mother in law. YOU are part of the reason I've stayed smoke free through all of this. Because I saw the issues you were going through last year, and still you vaped on through it and didn't give in. So I refused to give in too. Now it's time for me to give back to you: Gorgeous girl, I have faith in you. PM me when you need extra encouragement. I will never every slap you down for smoking, because lets face it, you do that yourself and it just makes you feel worse, but I will encourage you to pick up your PV and a bottle of doublemint.

Love you chick. Be good to yourself.

Hi Maureen. I know how you feel, because I was doing really well and then my Mom came down with Stage 4 lung cancer that spread to her bones. (She smoked for 62 years, and it of course caught up with her). Now, unfortunately after she went to the hospital, there were a lot of analogs lying around the house, and I thought "Oh God, I can't take this" and thought just one wouldn't hurt. Needless to say, I was back to smoking, not posting anything anywhere on ECF, and feeling terrible about it.

Well, the good news is that I just recommitted myself to not smoking again. It's only been a week, but the cravings for a cigarette are gone, just like the were the first time I started vaping. And when I visit my Mom in the hospital where she now is, well, they have a smoking area where I have to go to vape, and much to my surprise I'm not even tempted.

I'll just conclude by saying that I was a hard-core Pall Mall smoker, and I just pray every day that I don't ever go back. So if I can get back on the wagon, so to speak, I'm sure you can too. And here's a virtual hug (*HUG*) to help you out.

Take care.

Hi,Maureen.

New to the fsusa forum, but my heart goes out to you. I smoked for 40 plus years, and yes, there are days I fire up an analogue, but my heart isn't in it. I am so so grateful that so far, I can breathe so much better and am not coughing,Im afraid to blow this precious second chance....I never quit smoking, never in all these years, This is a first for me. I was lucky, I do have osteoporosis pretty bad from smoking, and god knows the future, but for now, I feel so much better. It is such a JOY just to breathe deeply and not cough! Hang in there, I don't know how long you smoked but if this hard core never quit ever before gal can do it, so can you. Ps...you can wander the fsusa website for hours and never see all the flavors they have...that alone will keep you busy. Cheering you on,girl...this tastes so much better.

Unfortunately I'm saving my knees for all the volleyball they can take....so running is out of the question. I did enjoy jogging last time I did it, but the knees...not so much.

On the other hand...the endorphins do absolutely help the depression...unfortunately it's a temporary thing...

Running will help infinitely more than anti depressants.... you just gotta get those endorphins going.... The 1st week sux, but after that it's a breeze!!!!

There's other ways than running.

There was a period in my rear-view mirror where every variety of antidepressant in creation was prescribed to me. They all might just as well been sugar pills, for all the effect they had on me.

Fortunately, I was dragged bodily into a gym one day. Running on a treadmill had the same adverse effect on my knees & joints as it has on yours, but 30 minutes on a recumbent bike and/or a 30 minute fast walk will change your whole outlook.

So...I'm coming to realize once again....that I can do this. It's harder now because my boyfriend and all of his family smoke, but I KNOW that I don't need to smoke....I need to work on saying no for sure...

Shocking...I told the bf the other morning when he tried to hand me a few cigarettes on the way out the door that I'm trying to quit again. Don't you know last night on the phone he said something about buying me a pack...REALLY???? Oh well...it's not like I don't have a pack in the car with 4 left...that I haven't touched since Tuesday morning...my biggest concern is drinking this weekend...we'll see how that goes...

The plus is that I'm working a couple 10 hour days this week (with the drive turns into 12 hour days) to make up for time lost from the holiday day off...which means at least I'll be tired when I get home. Just have to decide if I'm ready to jump into the fire of hanging out with people that smoke or not...
