Hello All,

New to posting here, been lurking for a few months here and there. Quit smoking after 31 years in June 2012. Used the patch for 2 months and was about to light back up and my girlfriend bought me a Blu e-cig. That did the trick, but got really old and really expensive really fast. Went to a Vapor Shop and have been hooked on vaping since. I love it. I love it so much, if these were around in the early 80's I would have never smoked cigarettes to begin with.

Now to the title of my thread....

I have dabbled in a few flavors here and there. Sat at those Vapor Bars and tried them all in one sitting. (Not a good idea) Found a few flavors I love and have been vaping happily since. Never really paid attention to what was in the juice. Just tried to buy what was made here in the USA. I went from the starter kits, to switching different tanks, learned a tad about ohms law and different coils. How my favorite juice tastes different from one tank to another and so on. Got a Mech Mod which was awesome, threw a kick in for adjusting, got different tanks with adjustable air flows and recently went all out with a Segelei 150W.

But now I wanted to give DIY a shot. For no other reason than this has become somewhat of a hobby at this point and I really enjoy it. I have gotten a few of my friends to stop smoking and now they Vape. But mixing my own flavors just seemed awesome to me. I couldn't wait to get all my supplies. I did tons of research on who to buy from and just bought flavors that seemed good to me and ones that would seem to mix to make other flavors. Before making my first mix, I read what seemed to be a million posts about peoples experiences on DIY.

That's when I realized I have been just vaping like mad, mindlessly all this time. I never took into account if there were any dangers in vaping this stuff. Bragging to my girlfriend and family about everything I was about to mix was FDA approved, safe stuff. So anyhoo, I mix my first batch of Black Cherry. Small batch just to try. Smelled so good, I couldn't wait. Found out you have to steep the juice. (uuhhhh, what?) Really!! I just mixed up this awesome batch of Black Cherry and now I gotta wait a freakin' week?! Maybe 2?? Well, I couldn't wait, and dropped it in my tank after 2 days and cranked it up. Great flavor going in, but had this weird, plasticky taste coming out. Like an aftertaste. So, I hit the forums and searched, and searched, and searched for what it could be. Then clicked on all kinds of different topics because there is soooo much information on this forum. I completely realized I should have come here first, before even starting to Vape.

I still haven't found out why it had that after taste, but I am going to do a lot of testing and lots more research. I want to share with this great Vaping Community what I find, and ask questions and hopefully learn as much as possible about all of this. I really love to Vape and I hope all of this works out because the last thing I ever want to do is light up a cigarette ever again.

Peace all and see you on the forums

Just an FYI. Nothing is FDA approved for vaping.

As far as "plastic taste" whose flavoring are you using?

Here are some threads you may like to read through for different flavoring companies. Many of the posts include recipes and comments about a specific flavor.

Hi. Not sure what your tasting but I do D.I.Y juice and I suspect it very well could be the quality of the nicotine your using. I've tried the gamit of different manufacturers of nicotine and I've noticed some of lesser quality can have a bad after taste. You can usually smell it in the nicotine itself. You might consider different manufacturers and if if it helps. It will make a difference. Also to keep the nicotine fresh you might consider to refrigerate it. At the very least keep it in a cool DARK area out of the light. It can degrade the quality if not stored properly. Hope this helps and best wishes

do a process of elimination... vape the diluted nic base without flavors added, see if the plastic taste exists, if so, try vaping just the VG/PG no nic stuff, if plastic taste exists... its your VG/PG no nic ... you got the idea? ;)
Im betting the plastic taste is going to be coming from your flavors.... not the PG/VG or nic base.... I find the nic base has more of a fishy taste when its "not right"...

Thanks for the replies. Bunnykiller, this is what I am going to do this weekend. I think it is the flavors too. But gonna try to eliminate and nail down which one. I got the Nic from MFS and the flavors were TFA. Sucks it had to happen on my first try. :( but if I can narrow it down, it should all be good from there.

Realsis, thanks for the reminder. As soon as I'm off work, to the fridge it's going. I forgot about that.

And Susan-S thanks for the reply. I have read lot's of stuff you have posted. All great info. It didn't like plastic. Inhaled was a great Balck Cherry flavor, it was on the exhale. It was an aftertaste of plastic. It lingered. It was strange.

MFS has good clean nic, but I've gotten a plasticky taste from some TFA flavoring I got before, specifically Cinnamon Red Hots. Makes me wonder if some of their stronger flavorings shouldn't be sold in those PET (clear plastic) bottles.

I've been told this as well. I was surprised when the flavors didn't come in bottles like Flavor West, but didn't care as it was just my first run. Others mentioned the steeping process, but I don't think steeping would remove that aftertaste. It would just make the initial flavor better.
