These tests below only note my personal opinion for the ESTIMATED ratings for the batteries I tested at the time I tested them. Any battery that is not a genuine Samsung, Sony, Murata, LG, Panasonic, Molicel, EVE, Lishen, BAK, or Sanyo can change at any time! This can be one of the hazards of using “rewrapped” or batteries from other manufacturers so carefully research any battery you are considering using before purchasing.
Misusing or mishandling lithium-ion batteries can pose a SERIOUS RISK of property damage, personal injury, or even death. Never use them outside of a fully protected battery pack and you use them at your own risk. Never exceed the battery’s true continuous discharge rating (CDR), never let it get colder than 0°C or hotter than 60°C, and keep the plastic wrap and top insulating ring in perfect condition. Never use a battery that is physically damaged in any way.
Testing batteries at their limits is dangerous and should never be attempted by anyone who has not thoroughly studied the dangers involved, understands the risks, has the proper equipment, and takes all appropriate safety precautions.
If the battery has only one current rating number, or if it only says "max", then I have to assume the battery is rated at that current level for any type of discharge, including continuous.





Test Results
In my opinion these are Ampace factory wrapped JP40’s since each cell has a different serial number and QR-style code box. There is chance that these could be JP40’s rewrapped by a very well equipped supplier but there is no evidence of that. These cells were donated for testing by Vapcell (https://www.vapcelltech.com), thank you!
Both of these cells look and perform essentially identically to the LT 22710A-wrapped and the “Ampace-wrapped” (same serial numbers and code boxes = rewrapped cells) versions of the JP40.
The JP40 has a 45A true continuous current rating and a 60A “temperature-limited” rating. You can run the cell at up to 60A but you must stop before the cell gets hotter than 75°C (which is HOT!).
The JP40 is a true high-performance “power” cell, capable of being pulsed at incredibly high current levels. Ampace mentions a maximum pulsed current rating of 140A for 5 seconds and I have tested them multiple times at 100A continuous (stopping before reaching their temperature limit) and 125A pulsed.

Some other results and info…
- DC IR measured 6.0mOhms for both cells. This is extraordinary consistency. The other JP40’s I’ve tested ranged from 5.5-6.5mOhms.
- Capacities for the two cells was 4125mAh and 4144mAh. This is good consistency and well above the 4000mAh typical capacity rating…which it should be IMO.
- The standard charge rate is 2A and the maximum rate is 8A. Like all cells I’m sure that the cycle life will be shorter if charging at the max rate a lot.
- Like the other JP40’s this cell has a spiral laser weld mark on the bottom where the internals of the cell were connected to the can.
- Vapcell says these are Grade A cells but that, typically, won’t show up in basic performance testing. Where you can really see the difference with Grade A cells is in the cell-to-cell consistency of the internal resistances, capacities, and self-discharge rates.
- Consistent self-discharge rates are especially important for battery packs since cells that all self-discharge down at different rates will unbalance the pack and force the battery management system (BMS) to work harder. It can also shorten the life of the pack. The two cells I tested here were very consistent with their internal resistances and capacities.
