These tests below only note my personal ESTIMATED ratings for the batteries I tested at the time I tested them. Any battery that is not a genuine Samsung, Sony, Murata, LG, Panasonic, Molicel, or Sanyo can change at any time! This is one of the hazards of using “rewrapped” or batteries from other manufacturers so carefully research any battery you are considering using before purchasing.

Misusing or mishandling lithium-ion batteries can pose a SERIOUS RISK of property damage, personal injury, or even death. Never use them outside of a fully protected battery pack and you use them at your own risk. Never exceed the battery’s true continuous discharge rating (CDR), never let it get colder than 0°C or hotter than 60°C, and keep the plastic wrap and top insulating ring in perfect condition. Never use a battery that is physically damaged in any way.

Testing batteries at their limits is dangerous and should never be attempted by anyone who has not thoroughly studied the dangers involved, understands the risks, has the proper equipment, and takes all appropriate safety precautions.

If the battery has only one current rating number, or if it only says "max", then I have to assume the battery is rated at that current level for any type of discharge, including continuous.

This is a great performing cell. It looks identical to, and performs essentially identical to, the hard to find LG HJ2.

At 12A-20A or so this cell and the HJ2 are outperformed only by the 2021-dated Molicel P28A. At lower current levels cells like the Molicel P28A, Murata VTC6, and LG MJ1 can perform a little better but not by much and you might not notice the difference.

While I can’t guarantee that this is a rewrapped LG HJ2 its appearance, performance, and the fact that 18650BatteryStore calls it the “18650-HJ2” makes me pretty confident that this cell is indeed the HJ2.

Cell-to-cell performance consistency (four cells) was good. Two cells tested out at 2992mAh and 3010mAh so one of them did not meet its 3000mAh rating. It’s so close though that I feel these are 3000mAh cells since my equipment is not as accurate as those used by the major manufacturers. I have not tested the cycle life of these cells.

Four cells were donated for testing by 18650BatteryStore (18650 Battery Store - Lithium Ion Batteries, Chargers and Accessories). Thank you!
