These tests below only note my personal ESTIMATED ratings for the batteries I tested at the time I tested them. Any battery that is not a genuine Samsung, Sony, Murata, LG, Panasonic, Molicel, or Sanyo can change at any time! This is one of the hazards of using “rewrapped” or batteries from other manufacturers so carefully research any battery you are considering using before purchasing.

Misusing or mishandling lithium-ion batteries can pose a SERIOUS RISK of property damage, personal injury, or even death. They are not supposed to be used outside of a fully protected battery pack and you use them at your own risk. Never exceed the battery’s true continuous current rating and keep the plastic wrap and top insulating ring in perfect condition.

Testing batteries at their limits is dangerous and should never be attempted by anyone who has not thoroughly studied the dangers involved, understands the risks, has the proper equipment, and takes all appropriate safety precautions.

If the battery has only one current rating number, or if it only says "max", then I have to assume the battery is rated at that current level for any type of discharge, including continuous.

This cell looks and performs the same as the Murata VTC6. This means the 20A rating on the wrap is exaggerated. Most of the ink was washed off when they rewrapped the cell but the original Murata VTC6 printing on the metal can is still slightly visible in good light.

Since it seems to be a VTC6 this cell performs well, about the same as the Samsung 30Q and a bit better than the LG HG2. Sony rated the VTC6 at 15A continuous and 30A if you keep it from getting hot, over 80°C. I have not been able to find the Murata datasheet for this cell but I assume it’s the same ratings as Sony gave this cell. I recommend staying below 15A to reduce risk, increase overall cell life, and increase performance as the voltage sag at high current levels is pretty bad (as it is for all 3000mAh-3550mAh 18650’s).

The two cells I tested delivered 3106mAh and 3109mAh, exceeding their 3000mAh rating. This is fantastic consistency and is typical for cells made by the big manufacturers.

Two cells were donated for testing. Thank you!
