What about a Vamo I've seen them in the 40$ range. I have a V5 and it only cost more because I got the anodized rainbow finish. It's a great APV check them out because they are reasonable and I personally love mine. The stingray is nice that was my second choice. I got mine at Vivid Smoke they have other ones that are less expensive but the best thing IMHO is to shop around.

Good luck!

-points to the topic heading- The Vamo is not a mechanical mod.

copper fuhattan.

Love the Fuhattan!
Vaped on one while at Henley in Manhattan a few weeks ago. loved it. The story behind it and the bird on the bottom make it a gem. I might have to grab one.

Looking for a good mechanical mod for under $50. I'm hoping that you guys can help.

I prefer authentic but I'm not morally opposed to using a clone if it'll be a better experience.

What I'm looking for is something hard hitting with a low voltage drop. Things like aesthetics, and feel of the firing switch are secondary to me.

I like copper when possible with silver/copper connections.

I'd go above 50 by a bit if there is something significantly better in a little higher price range. In the future I can myself spending a good $250 on a mod but I can't afford that right now.

So far I'm looking at a red copper stingray v2 clone by infinite. I'm just a bit weary of Chinese quality control on these devices.

Can anyone make some educated suggestions?

I found this on one of my favorite supplier sites, the fellow only sells authentic and has super low prices. Although the side winder does not really have a recessed button, it is worth looking at, especially for this price (< $20 bucks). I emailed the supplier to find out more and found that he is selling them at cost because interest has been low and he's had the stock for awhile now. At < $20 bucks, a sidewinder is a very nice add to any mechanical or semi-mechanical collection. The sidewinder is "semi mechanical" because it is a top button with a wire connecting the positive connection to the 510 connector (but no electronics). I have vaped .6 sub-ohm RBA builds on a sidewinder that I purchased from the link below and have never had an issue, it hits well and I LOVE the top button. I have more expensive mech mods, but I do take out and use my sidewinder quite often, just because I really like the top button and how the whole rig feels in the hand.

Check this out, great price on a clearance item:

I second the workhorse from Super T.
Since it sounds like you will be interested in more authentic mods in the future, the workhorse is a good place to start. Good price point, solid device made in the US by a reputable company (who support their product) and authentic.
Another point worthy of mention is that an authentic can always be posted here in the classifieds if you want to sell or upgrade. I used my first authentic and the ones that followed to "trade up" and have owned some very nice gear, never spending more than $50 to upgrade (full setups including toppers). Unless you are a collector who wants a dozen high-end mods, you will be surprised at how effective a single authentic setup and the ECF classifieds can be on your road to your dream setup.
Clones..... I'm not bashing here but like I said, they serve a purpose but they are cheap, not allowed for sale on ECF and don't hold any significant value for resale.

I dig the workhorse. But it's not $50.
As far as resale goes...buying mods as an investment is akin to buying commemorative NASCAR dining plates.
;).

$50 will get you an incredible mod as long as you aren't blinded by hype.

How are those second hand legit Origin mods reselling?
:D
