I have a question about aging your tobacco. Many people have said tobacco tastes the best when it's aged a bit. Does that apply only to smoking, or is it true with extraction?

some smoking tobaccos do get better with proper aging! even manufactures elude to this. Premium cigar makers and fine humidor producers have proven this, with cigars with exceptional taste, that have been properly aged for many years.
IMHO I think it concentrates the flavors for some tobacco and makes a richer extract. Unfortunately, I found out this does not translate to all tobaccos out there and it was "trial by error" in my case.

I assume then that you guys both think it is best to age your tobaccos before extracting them. I am told by P&C that tinned tobaccos are already aged, but not so for loose tobacco.
While aged tobaccos generally gain nuances not found in fresher leaf it isn't necessary to age, although Perique is my favorite and it's barrel aged.

I really dig American Spirit organic extract, I'm not sure if the tobacco is aged but it certainly makes for a nice extract...as does the Perique blend.

Can't live without Perique. Are you using blending Perique from P&C?

I just learned another thing from P&C. They said it's not a good idea to age Latakia
since it will start losing the smokey flavor from aromatic woods it has been treated with.

I'm not sure where the Perique I have came from, it was gifted.

Do you mix Perique with anything, or just by itself?

I vape it straight up, it will go with anything but mixing it is like putting ketchup on steak. Perique being the steak, everything else being ketchup :)

I love Balkans as well, on the cheap I find Stokkebye Balkan Supreme to be nice. I would rather have a Perique blend instead of Cavendish but it's so inexpensive can't complain.

I age the tobaccos that seem to be overly moist tinned or bulk for sure. not all need aging especially if dry.

Something strange has happened to my Perique flavor six months after it was mixed. It now tastes kind of stale, like cheap old tobacco. It was perfect at the two-month mark. Are these flavors supposed to go stale 6 months after mixing, or am I finally tasting the true flavor or Perique? I liked it much better when it was young :)

Yes, 75%vg. Does that make a difference? It was tasting find before ...

I have a bad reaction to PG. that said, my extracts are alcohol and VG extracted, VG nic., and cut with VG. no problems on extracts over a year old. however, Perique has an underling sour to funky taste after a while. not as sweet as it is new. That is totally normal from what I have read.

I figured as much. I still have the alcohol extract without the added pg or vg. I wonder if the extract will also change flavor over time.

Morning All-
I have some extracts that have been meditating since April 4 that are ready to be filtered this weekend:

Scotty's Bulk Blends - Great Hiatus - Pipes and Cigars
McClelland Craftsbury Collection - Frog on the Town - Pipes and Cigars
McClelland McClelland Craftsbury Collection - Frog on the Ba - Pipes and Cigars
McClelland Craftsbury Collection - FrogMorton - Pipes and Cigars
War Horse Ready-Cut - Pipes and Cigars
Peterson St. Patrick's Day 2016 - Pipes and Cigars

I usually let the extracts sit for a week before mixing them up then another 3-4 weeks before testing.

It's a Waiting Game for sure...

I feel like I am "Sleep Walking" and getting nowhere, waiting for my extracts to mature at times! :tumble:

I wonder if it is even necessary for an extract to sit by itself a week B4 being mixed. Would the result be any different whether it sits by itself or in suspension?
