Best way to retire an antiquated GG (collectors)

I've can think of different means or 'goop' applied for non corrosive purposes, and or the thread silk feeling / conductivity ect , but say I plan on retiring the device for good while insuring it's longevity or viability in storage.

I'm sure some or many of you have thought of this or even applied a technique or two already. So what's the general consensus on long term preservation.

The only way I can think is to give them a good clean, dry thoroughly and put them in a ziplock bag with some silica gel pouches. You can use something like rust guard on alloy to stop any corrosion. It dries to a waxy coating for long term storage.
