I'm very happy with the operation of my V4L manual passthru, but I'm thinking of getting another. I use their batts and carto's. The only complaints I have about the V4L passthru is that the wire is too stiff, and the connection end is prone to pull out. I put some heatshrink tubing on to stop that, but its a bit hokey looking.

Can anyone recommend a good manual PT which delivers equal performance, but with better cabling? Adaptor threads OK, if I can get them from the same vendor.

P.S. I believe KR808D-1 is a battery, but it might be a format, so I hope this post is in the right forum. Please direct me elsewhere if I missed.

You're in the right area. KR808D-1 is a connector type, all of V4L's products use it. I've had passthroughs from at least 3 places, the v4l actually had best connection, though I also thought the one from vaporsetc was pretty decent. Adding the bit of heat shrink right where the wire goes in is a good thing to do. Nature of the beast with USB cabling, itty bitty wires.

but the 4ft cable is stiffer than automobile jumper cables! This is the stiffest USB cable I've ever seen. Those with blackberry, iphone, garmin, beltronics radar detector, external hard-drives, etc etc etc are as floppy as almost-cooked spaghetti. And some of those are 2x the diameter! Maybe I'll end up cobbling one together from a nicer cable, but I really wanted to avoid breaking out the soldering iron.

I am on Indian land
Since June, I've been blessed with Generation 1 KR808d-1 hookah-doodles from just about every company that sells them, and I haven't been able to perceive any difference in performance among the whole bunch.

They all work just fine.

After half a year spent with one in my hand virtually every waking moment, I would not be able to identify which one came from what store in a blind puff test.

I'm sure those more knowledgeable than I about these things will correct me if I err, but I suspect this may be due to the simplicity of the device.

All the world asks of it is that it deliver current from an electrical plug up through its little tail to the scientific machinery contained in the cartomizer.

V4L has the best selection of color choices, but a plain white $10 one from litecigusa or vaporsetc is just a coat of nail polish away from being exactly the shade you want it to be - which you might have to do with the V4L ones anyway.

A friend gave me a V4L one with a note saying she knew I would want a "gold" one, but the color was more of a bronze that would be absolutely stunning in the hand of a milky-skinned redhead, but was not at all flattering to this brunette's aged-but-still-attitudinous undertones, and had to be immediately re-gilded with Orly Luxe.

(Lest you think me less than gracious, I should hasten to add that it was my benefactor herself who noted that it was not the right gold for me - before I'd even seen myself with it in the mirror - and she who scampered off to fetch the nail polish box!)

Now if you had asked if there were a Generation 1 wireless "better" than those new long jewel-tipped V4L pushybutton ones, with "better" being defined as "provides a throat hit closer to a Generation 1 hookah-doodle," my answer would be a resounding "NO."

Moral: Gather ye hookah-doodles where they be cheapest, set aside the savings for the next V4L sale and stock up on those fabulous new jewel-tipped wirelesses with a pushybutton (and the special charger they need), because we all have to leave the house occasionally.

Well, so I got a manual PT from Vapors Etc and happy to report its cable is a bit more flexible than V4L's. I'm sad to report tho that it has a cut-off timer. About 5 seconds. Price is decent (half of V4L's at full-retail). I'll probably stash it away as a backup.

Also got some "clearomizers" (?)? They look like carto's made of clear plastic with poly fill at the bottom. Pop off the tip, fill it with juice and vape. Wonder how it'll do laying on it side when not in use. Probably best discussed on a different thread.
