So, I recently purchased a subtank nano and a set of Ipow 2 batteries. I figured because they are the same diameter they would go good together. I don't use the sub-ohm (0.5) coils as I'm not a huge fan of the heat (Tried on a Dovpo BT-50, not Ipow 2)... I'm using the 1.2 ohm coils and at 12-15 watts my Ipow seems to work fine with no problems, great vape etc. I have been reading a lot on compatibility issues and high power requirements for the subtank though and am getting a little concerned.

Is the high power requirement only for the sub-ohm coils, or does it apply to the 1.2 ohm coils as well? Basically what I'm trying to figure out is: Is my Ipow 2 battery going to blow up in my face one day?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

First, I had to figure out what-in-the-hell an Ipow 2 is... ;-)

The Kanger Ipow has a lower resistance limit of 1.0Ω... fairly common, and the device has so many safety features that it's near idiot proof. Maximum output is 15 watts, so... the 0.5Ω coil heads may "fire", but the device won't provide adequate resistance to current parity.

Stick to the 1.2Ω heads for this PV... it's an acceptable balance.

I don't own any replaceable coil/head attys, but if I were to guess... the 1.2Ω coil/head is made from 29 gauge wire - (based on the Kanger reference of an operating range of 12~25 watts) - providing a more than adequate heat flux spread of 178~370 mW/mm2.

Your device limit, being 15 watts, will provide a heat flux of (around) 222 mW/mm2 (if the coil head is... what I think it is).

Sorry, State O' Flux, still learning. Would you mind explaining to me what the heat flux is all about? Trying to learn as much about this stuff as I can.

From what I am understanding from your post:
- The heat flux rating for the 1.2 Ohm coil is 178-370 mW/mm2.
- So my device would fall within that range (at about 222) and be safe?

Much Appreciated,

No problem...

It's not the rating for a coil alone, Dben... but rather the coils radiant heat value - expressed in milliwatts per millimeter squared - of the specific coil resistance and construction... for the maximum 15 watts you are limited to.

You can run the numbers from either direction. For example... for the wattage applied, what is the optimal coil build.

As you're using manufactured coil heads, I had to take an educated guess at the wire gauge... which is where my estimate of heat flux comes from. I could be more specific if I had a coil head to inspect.

Click on my first sigline hyperlink to access the Steam Engine coil modelling program... click the second for my advanced user guide. For some, it's easier if you split screen - read a bit - play with the program a bit, and so on.

Have fun!

    Congrats on the quit RobFallen!

I'm a huge fan of the Ipow 2 and nano setup... at 15 watts as well. I haven't found any clearo's (coils) that can match the sub-tank for flavor / vapour production balance yet. I bought the regular subtank with a Dovpo bt-50 before the Ipow2 and nano setup and loved it (That is after I used the 1.2 ohm coil - still not a fan of the heat with sub-ohm vaping, but each to their own). When they released the nano, and I was able to build a more portable ego style unit, I was all over it.

Sorry if this is a stupid question but is the subtank nano using a 1.2 coil considered a warm vape? I just got my ego one and even with the 1 ohm coil its too warm for me :( I love this little guy but i cant seem to like the warmth of it and would love to tone it down. Mind you im coming from using a 1.8 ohm coil in my emow mega on my istick. Sorry for being a complete nub as ive only been vaping for 3 weeks.but no cigs :) Any input would be awesome!

No stupid questions. I have an ego one as well and it is a little bit warmer. 0.5 and even 1.0 ohm coils are relatively low and require higher wattage from the battery to fire which does create heat. The 1.2 in the Subtank isn't much higher either so compared to your Emow it will be warmer. I would suggeste picking up a variable wattage battery or mod that is capable for firing the coils with your ego one tank or subtank and play around with the wattage until you find a setting you like. The Joyetech ECOM supreme is working well for me. I like a cooler Vape too. But it's considerably longer than the ego one battery. Hope that helps.

A different drip tip on the Nano eliminates heat....(if this is the heat you're referring to).

I like the atomizer a lot.

Thanks for the replies! Yeah I have a istick and it's nice to be able to tune my vape. Now by no means is that a big setup. But after receiving my ego one. I'm in love with its small form factor and footprint. And I'm on a quest to find a tank that fits the ego one battery nicely but with a cooler vape.

Sorry can you show me what you mean. Like a longer one? One made of metal? Sorry. Lol

Just a different type other than metal,..................... stone, wood, ceramic, etc.

The drip tip can become warm if you're into taking huge lung hits....the one that comes with the Nano suits me fine, I'm not into huge lung hits.
