So let's get the hardware out of the way.

I have a Lavatube 2.5 variable wattage from volcano ecigs that I fire at 6.0 watts and a kayfun es 3.1 that I recently got.

Now then, the flavor is beyond amazing, I had been using Cartos until now and it's been a world of difference in quality of flavor, now then, I kind of wanted to cloud chase a bit so I built a coil as low as I could (1.3 ohms) now I have been making myself dizzy reading threads as to what's better, low or high ohms for cloud chasing, one thread says low, cause it burns hotter, the other thread says high because wattage makes the ohms moot and more wraps means more cotton burning, and I just want to know. Which way on ohms do I go, on variable wattage to make big clouds of flavor?

You will need more than 6 watts to produce significant cloud. The Kayfun isn't known as a cloud chasing atty. More for flavor, which is what it's very good at. You would have to move into rebuildable drippers to achieve more cloud. Yes, lower ohms make a difference, as does the PG/VG of the juice. In general, higher VG liquids generate more cloud, especially at sub-ohms.

Actually it's sixes.
Higher wattage produces more vapor, and there are two ways to get higher wattage.

You can decrease the resistance, or you can increase the voltage.

Exactly... With a mech mod you have a fixed voltage... Only one way to get increased wattage.... lower resistance....

With a VV/VW mod you have options... You can drive the voltage up high to drive higher resistance at higher wattage... Or (depending on the mod) go the same way as a mech and use lower resistance and still drive high wattage with low voltage.

With your lavatube you max out at 15W and 6v... Between that and a kayfun you can get some VERY decent vapor, but you're not going to compare with something like a low resistance dripper on a mech or a high resistance dripper on a high power device... Again, it's all about wattage...

If I were you, I would try 28awg 2mm coils... Probably about 8 wraps... Wick it with cotton or rayon and run it at 15 watts... You'll definitely get some thick flavorful clouds...

Funny you mention that, the wire I have is Kanthal 28, and 10 wraps were what I had to do, to get it to fire at its 1.3w using organic cotton ran it at 15 and yeah huge plume but really hot vape. Like, after a bit of repeated hits it was hot even to my lip. Even warped the entire flavor of the vape. It went from Cool Kahlua and Irish cream to like... Hot fudge with cream. Threw me right the hell off.

Sounds like you're using a very small inner diameter coil... For 10 wraps to give you 1.3ohms with 28awg you've gotta be probably somewhere around 1.5mm inner diameter.. Try wrapping around something a bit larger... at 2.5mm 8 wraps would give you about 1.5ohms... I think you'll find it a cooler better vape... If it's still to warm for your liking then try opening up the air holes on the kayfun... Not much... just a tad can make a big difference... For that matter even popping a different drip tip (or slightly drilling out the original) may make a bit of a difference... I personally never cared much for the tiny hole in the kayfun DTs.

I did not know that even the thickness of the wire would change it all. I thought about going to a mechanical mod, but I am very terrified of it exploding on me or some such.

Just do a little more research on it and it's not so scary, and I am saying this after completing my first build on a mech two days ago. My avatar is the result of said build, and that was just a normal exhale.

Know your batteries limits and use this Coil wrapping | Steam Engine | free vaping calculators and you should be fine. But when in doubt ask there's plenty of people here willing to help. Vape on!:vapor:

Edited: I just wanted to add I started with a Lavatubev2.5 and a Nautilus the flavor is comparable but for the vapor mech wins hands down.

On a variable mod I usually stay around .7-1 ohm to make some clouds. You don't need super low ohms for clouds on a variable because you can control the wattage and voltage. The only reason you need to build low on mechs is because you vape it around 4.2v on a fresh charged battery. Right now I'm vaping a .5 ohm dual coil at 65 watts which is putting out 5.9 volts.
