Hello all. I recently ordered a black label (protected 18650) AW ICR 3400 battery to be used in an SVD. Based on the fear mongering videos of YouTube, I'm a little hesitant to put this batt. next to my face. Are my fears really unfounded, or should I order the IMR batts. instead? Pretend I'm someone you care enough about that you wouldn't want to see them lose teeth. Also, a big thank you to MorpheusPA for fielding my questions thus far.

This is my understanding (and I hope someone corrects me if I'm wrong because I want to understand this)...

An ICR protected battery can be used in a straight mechanical. It should not be used in a VV/VW device (because the circuitry making the battery protected interferes with the circuitry in the device).

An ICR unprotected battery can be used in a VV/VW device (since the circuitry in the device provides protection). It should never be used in a mechanical (since a mechanical has no built-in protection, i.e. circuitry).

An IMR battery is inherently a safer battery, therefore it does not come in protected/unprotected forms. It can be used in all devices. All the IMR batteries I've seen specified that they are high-drain making them the best choice for any set-up that makes high demands on the battery (think 'sub-ohm').
