I have never heard someone call something dark and unidentified as black never heard it generally used clearly it is 100% black.

I disagree you most definitely have been telling him his opinion is wrong. It's all subjective without any further information from op. If it is a Tadpole, maybe the OP is worried about Violating the Marine Mammal Protection Act (MMPA) if they take it out of their Tank and it Dies?

Guys...I have had a couple of black Kangertech tanks...from my experience, it's the paint coming off. It happened on both of the units I bought. I stopped using them after that. I was actually able to see paint missing in certain areas of the tank. It would be my guess that the OP will find the same thing if they looked close.
