I am in now way confused about where I can or cannot do something, I am fully aware of what a private business is versus a public place or one in which may need some permission.

Don't over think it - that's actually not allowed. Just let George Orwell sort it all out for us and everything will be peachy. (sigh...)

We who vape are the "new kid on the block"....in more ways than one......
We need to "tread lightly' on others' "turf"...a misspoken word or "in-your-face" attitude COULD go a LONG way toward creating a "trickle-down" attitude that will not end well for us...
One e-juice vendor (......and there are likely more....) sends a "business card" out with each order...the card's front reads: "THIS IS NOT A CIGARETTE...." The back highlights some "basics" of e-cigs and vapor in general.....
My take....if someone approaches me - rudely or otherwise regarding my vaping - I simply hand them the card....and THANK THEM for their concern....After this initial "contact". what follows will depend on the mindset of the individuals involved.....BUT....it's (generally...) best to let cooler heads prevail; if the person is put off/offended/rude....I let it go and part ways - POLITELY!
If, OTOH, the person is interested in learning more about e-cigs/vaping....so much the better!! Maybe I just won another "heart and mind"!!!! For me....it's certainly worth a shot!!
OK....I agree this thread may be wearing thin....so....I'm off my soapbox!!;)
Happy (vaping) Trails!

My personal opinion is if you cant smoke somewhere, you shouldnt vape there either. Its more of a respect issue, and while vaping is still in the baby stages, it becomes more obvious every day that people view them almost the same as analogs and treat them as such.

If we do what you suggest, and treat vaping just like it's smoking, then why would non vapers ever assume there was a difference? Sure, we could go outside with the smokers, stand in the cold, or the heat, or the rain, or whatever. But why should we if the business doesn't ask us to?

I vape in bars and resaurants every day. Pretty much everywhere I go. People ask a lot of questions about it, but they don't complain. There are some places where I stealth vape, usually due to children in the area. There isn't any place I go where I've been asked not to do it.

If we just treat it as smoking, then there may as well be a law against vaping in public.

Smoking was banned due to the inherent threat of public safety (i.e. second hand smoke and cancer).

Personally, I think the public outcry was primarily due to the smell. Smoking smells bad. That's why people don't mind when I vape - it doesn't smell bad.

............ It just doesn't seem appropriate to me to be using something that is designed for adults around kids (other peoples kids, specifically).

Thats something that bothers me , I think the kids could learn from us , we have tried everything to QUIT smoking because its so bad for us , THIS is what we are reduced to doing because NOTHING else worked for us . They can see how hard it is on us and the effects of smoking . A cigarette is more addictive than heroine , as far as i can remember . Its not the nicotine in it , thats the least harmful chemical in an analog , its the other 3999 other things that are in it .

Sorry guys , but we need to educate as many people as politely as we can about how much better off we are now that we are vaping rather than smoking .

I was in the hospital waiting room with my wife and her family the other day , just puffing away (Vamo in hand with a second in one in a case), had 3 people around me including a nurse ask about it and how they wished they had one for themselves , maybe i got 3 more people to stop smoking because of that . If the nurse, especially, or the other 2 would have asked me to stop , hell i was in a hospital , no second thoughts , i would have put it away instantly . Why people stealth vape i have no clue , its like they are doing something they shouldnt be doing . There are people that carry around spit bottles everywhere and dip , why cant we vape ? Is there going to be someone like that idiot dentist (I forget his name and where he was from) that wants to ban dipping in public also ?

And thank you to our vets for our freedoms and their service to us and our county .

Thanks for your time and patience reading my rant , AGAIN .
Donnie

The bullying is so rampant in our country, that even President Obama has to stealth chew his Nicorette gum.
How ridiculous is that.
This proves, the ANTZ have gone over the line. They do not care about people's health.
They only care about control. Control of other's happiness and FREEDOMS. Freedom is what our country is based on, and yet even the President has to hide from the ANTZ who have declared their ideals to be the only ideals worth having. Wow, like Hitler. Where's Winston Churchill when ya needs him? Oh wait! Bill Godshall, Dr. Seigel, Greg, Dr. Konstalinos, Dr. Mark Radu, ... there are so many Winstons out there, I can't spell em right.
Time for some T-shirts maybe? Stop the Bullying. This is Vapor you stupid idiots!! :)

Well, I don't see it as black and white as don't vape anywhere you can't smoke. I don't think you should have to be 25 feet away from any door or window (California), or away from people outside at a public event (not necessarily illegal in many places, but definitely stigmatized). But a little consideration does go a long way. I usually won't inside buildings. I do at work because no one I work with has a problem with it. I've occasionally taken little toots in big warehouse stores that aren't crowded.

But I wouldn't just vape anywhere. The truth is that we don't know just how safe these things are. Are they safer than cigarettes? Oh, almost certainly. Basic logic would tell you that. But are they as safe as normal air, in any given area? I can't say that for certain....honestly probably not, and it isn't necessarily something that can be generalized either. Even if these juices are generally safe, some people may have a problem with them. I mean even some vaper users have problems with PG or some flavorings. Why make someone else miserable because they happen to be allergic to something I'm vaping? It's not that hard to go outside.

That said, I also never wear heavy perfume or cologne (I'm not exactly a gender conforming individual, so it really could be either lol) because it bothers a lot of people. I wish more people wouldn't because some perfumes and colognes really bother me! I think the world would be a better place if more people were more considerate.

We're the bullies for vaping in public? I don't make the person who always burns popcorn in the breakroom microwave go across the street to use the microwave in the gas station. I don't make gagging noises when the packs of teenage girls & boys walk past me with their Axe & Tag and other incredibly overpowering cologne on but I will clear the immediate area if they stay too long and I will run off an elevator if someone with overpowering cologne gets on. Do I whine and carry on with management over the burnt popcorn and gagging perfume? Do I hang one of the "Fragrance Free Zone" signs on my cube? The peanut allergy signs bug the crap out of me but I just stay out of those areas--I love peanut butter and I have no idea if a stray piece is caught in my teeth just waiting to fall out on that 1 in a million person who has a severe peanut allergy. What about all the cat lovers that drag their cat dander into work? My husband is severely allergic to cats. I work on computers all day so I crawl around through people's cubes and inevitably bring cat hair and dust into the house. He takes an extra Zyrtec and I take a night time shower to get it out of my hair. We don't call our politicians and demand they declare war on cat owners. I am not hurting anyone when I sit or stand off in a corner and take a few hits of my menthol, non-tobacco flavored juices. I am not smoking! Why do I have to go play with the smokers? And the ridiculous hotels, motels, cruise ships & probably property rental managers that threaten me with a $250 cleaning bill for using my P.V. in my room are out of their minds. Don't judge a book by it's cover & looks can be deceiving are basic rules that everyone is taught and they are forgetting those rules--not me.

this is certainly a tricky subject.. I usually don't vape in stores or buildings that i'll only be in a few minutes (i.e. walmart, lowes, department stores.), but i don't fell guilty about it if i do take a puff or two. If i'm walking through the mall or somewhere i will be for a while, i'll vape and not wory about it. That being said i don't blow huge clouds and try to stand away from people to an extent, but that's just being polite. I've never had anyone complain or say anything negative about me vaping around them, but if i was respectfully asked to stop vaping in a store or whatever, i would. I see it about the same as wearing overly revealing clothes or shirts with profanity on it. Would a person be hurting anyone if they did? no. are they allowed to? yes. is it polite or appropriate? not really..
I personally try to just be polite and ere on the side of caution. I ALWAYS vape in bars and at work, usually in restaurants, usually not in stores.
Also, one thing i thought i'd add... My dad doesn't smoke and has never smoked, HATES smoking, but has zero problem with vaping. Since i've switched and he's done some research (because he at least tries to stay informed), he actually goes around advocating vaping. That in itself has to say something good about exposing people to vaping. even the non-smokers.

As expected this thread has degenerated into a political pissing contest.

It's simple.

The majority is usually ignorant and uninformed. "Obnoxious" vaping in public has its consequences, and it's same reason why little kids can't run around with 1:1 replica toy guns that are painted completely black.

Be an adult and ask the establishment if vaping is allowed. How hard is that?

There doesn't need to be a debate about the meaning of the constitution here. Give a little respect, and you get some back.

And the ridiculous hotels, motels, cruise ships & probably property rental managers that threaten me with a $250 cleaning bill for using my P.V. in my room are out of their minds.

I've been wondering about this issue with non-smoking hotel rooms and with rental cars as well. How would they know if you were vaping, unless they witnessed it and misinterpreted ...

After almost 4 months, my apartment and car have virtually no residual tobacco odor, and nothing that I can detect from vaping. My neighbor, who has a nose like a bloodhound and is fanatically anti-smoking, has ridden in my car recently while I vaped and had no objections. He was unaware that I was vaping for several minutes until I brought it up (my stealth vaping technique is nearly perfect now) ...

I would vape without hesitation in a non-smoking hotel room, using discretion, and in a rental car as well. I can't imagine that it could be an issue, and if challenged, could always do what our elected officials do, deny everything ... :D

There are a few people, apparently, who feel they should vape anywhere and everywhere without giving a damn about anyone else.
I call these people extremists, and I think the vast majority of vapers would not approve of this behavior.

There are some people that think we should not vape ANYWHERE that smoking is prohibited, including places like parking lots, beaches, and public parks.
I call these people extremists, and I hope these people are very much in the minority.

In between these extremes is a whole range of places and situations that are more useful to discuss.
But before long these conversations devolve due to everyone acting like each side is espousing one of the extremist positions above.

I have no doubt the vast majority of vapers believe the same thing, that we should vape respectfully.
The central question is really what each person considers to be respectful in a given situation.

My opinion is that the ANTZ are pushing, have been pushing, and will continue to push vaping bans no matter what we do.
How we act is not going to have any effect on that, since their agenda is all about money and hatred.

But the more the normal public is on our side, the more difficult it will be to get those bans passed.
I think it should be obvious that the only way to get the public on our side is through education, which has to come from us.

Nobody is going to do it for us.

I understand everyone has there own opinion in this subject, you can call me an extremist all you want. I didnt stop analogs so i could still be limited like i was still smoking analog's. now i do respect that i won't vape near or on my kids school grounds, in fact it was my 11 yr old daughter who told me about the electric cigarette and suggested i stop so i did. I haven't gotten any negative reactions from vaping yet, so why am i going to try to hide what i am, A Vaper point blank. I get asked alot do they work, how does it feel when you use it, ect. Im not going to feel guilty about taking my vamo / lavatube anywhere i want (except kids school of course). Education is key and the uneducated needs to understand what we do isnt bad really.

your calling anyone who vapes anywhere and everywhere Extremists and the few who think we shouldnt vape in public areas Extremists. If me vaping anywhere and everywhere (except my kids school grounds) an extremists then yes you can call me 1 then lol its not going to offend me as i stopped analogs so i wouldn't be so limited as to a analog smoker.

I think we should be respectful and follow the same smoking policy. If we continue regulations are going to be pushed harder until it becomes ridiculous.

If we show some ounce of maturity and respect we will get farther.

Also by vaping any where it is showing signs of "this is safe" and I don't want my kid to think inhaling a ything is safe.

My kid is 9 and ask a ton of questions about vaping. I simply inform him that it is terribly bad and stay away from anything vaping related.
