30 gauge (awg) kanthal a1.

2mm Inner Diameter (ID)

5 wraps, with fairly short legs, is nominally 1.2 ohms, for use at up to 12w power.

Alternately, 28 AWG kanthal a1, 2.5mm ID, 7 wraps gets you 1.3 ohms good for up to about 26.6 watts.

(I use an android app called vape Tool. I actually bought the Pro version for a couple dollars because I find it both handy and easy to use. Alternately there's Coil wrapping | Steam Engine | free vaping calculators, though even as an engineer I find it more painful to use for my simple twisted wire coil needs :) )

Hi @Fstop, your looking at 28awg or 30awg using 2mm or 2.5mm inner diameter and aiming for about 5 or 6 wraps.
If your looking at between 1.2 to 1.8 ohms you have a pretty good choice of wraps and gauges etc.
Easiest way to get the coil resistance and wraps you want is to use a coil wrap calculator.
The one I use is www.vapinghardware.com/calculators/coil-wrap-calculator
It's simple and straightforward to use.

Dvarw 16mm airflow options: Anyone do a flavor comparison 2 holes vs 3 tiny hole plate?
Thanks @ShowMeTwice been going over x coil & wick how to. Can someone explain the Positioning of a simple single coil over airflow holes? IMG_20200914_195554.jpg Made my first couple of coils 30Awg 6.18 wraps I'm going to test it on Aegis - think that's the easiest. I don't want to test on pico or ehpro 101 lol But I want know others experience on airflow options. @Redbird11

Good calculators
Who received their 16mm Dvarws & is trying to build it besides me?
@ShowMeTwice 16mm Coil Postioning : First Try, to position Coil on 16mm Topfill Dvarw Build Deck. Position Not Looking ight, is it?

@Fstop rotate and install your coil like so...
IMG_1393cr.jpg

Build deck above is from one of my 22mm Dvarw's. Doesn't matter, it will be the same for your 16mm.

Good luck!!!

ETA: My coil is a 2.5mm ID ss316L at 0.45 ohms.

ETA2: My coil is sitting ~1.5mm above the center airflow.

You're welcome. I hope it worked out for you. Still working on it. I'll let u know when I get. Build deck & coil is so Tiny:blink:

@AngeNZ has a wonderful Blog entry with the various ways to wick the Dvarw's. I wick mine with the Exocet and Vapdivrr methods. The bunny ear method is IMO the easiest, FWIW.

Thanks. Been reading it & i have it on my watched post & treads + local shortcuts screen.
Working that coil till I have it right clearing lead post, airflow holes & dry burn. However, long it takes:D

Why not split the difference an use 29g kanthal. Easier to work with than the 30g, ramps up faster than the 28g. ;)
Looked for 29 Awg at FT & found none lol
@ShowMeTwice Dry Burnt it. Coil only reads as .62 ohms but Press The Fire Button Coil Burns at 1.82 ohms
Now I'll move to wicking. So what cotton are you using? I don't have fluffy cotton IMG_20200916_171925.jpg This all I have, will it work?

If you were aiming for a 1.8 ohm coil it should consistently read 1.8 ohms on your mod (1.82 ohms is fine). If it is jumping around between 0.62 and 1.82 ohms then see the next paragraph. If it is staying at 1.82 ohms on your mod then you are good to move onto wicking it. It may have just been a glitch reading 0.62 ohms.

If your ohms continue to jump around: Please make sure your coil is tightened to the posts. The leads do not need to be gorilla tight or you may snap a screw, just "tight" tight. But not a loose tight, make sense? Also verify the leads are cut as close to the posts as possible. Make sure the coil itself is not touching either of the posts.

You used 30 gauge kanthal, correct? From the photo you posted last night your coil looks to be really close to the posts on each side.

Is that a 2.5mm ID coil at 6 wraps?
Or did you install a 2mm ID 7 wrap coil?

Either of those will get you 1.8 ohms.

With the 16mm Dvarw build deck being so small I would opt for a 2mm ID coil so there is enough clearance between the posts. A 2mm ID 7 wrap coil will come out to 1.8 ohms.

When I install a new coil the ohms don't jump around. It will jump around if one, or both, legs are not tightened down. In my photo I posted yesterday I have a 26g ss316L 2.5mm ID 7 wrap coil and I know from experience it will come out to 0.45 - 0.47 ohms on any of my mods. The resistance (ohms) never jumps around.

As @FranC posted the cotton you have will work fine.

And for cotton I use Cottonmans Mavaton's Select, Mavaton's X and Carolina Blend. But I also use rayon in RBA's.

Hope all that helps. Lemme know. :)
