Boge 510 LR cartomizer problems

Hi all...

I have been using the Boge low resistance 510 cartomizers with my Ego and Riva. I went through 25 of them with no issues at all. Then today, I opened my last box of 5. I filled 3 of them with 30+ drops each and let them sit for a few hours while I went out. When I got home, I put one on my Ego and started vaping it. It sizzled really loud and I immediately I got the harsh burning cartomizer taste. I checked to make sure it was wet and it was. So, I grabbed the second one and it did the same thing. The third one sizzles loud and seems to be burning hot but if I keep it really wet it seems usable. I don't know how long it is going to last though.

I find it odd that 25 were fine then 3 out of the same box are bad. Almost as if they were from a different batch or something.

Anyone have issues like this? Any advice or input is appreciated.

I had one like that about a month ago. Filled it let it sit and same thing. tasted like vaping a musty old wet mop. Anyway I used some tweezers (or any strong pointed ogbect) and grabbed the black wire. Pulled up and readjusted the element to get it into another area of the wadding and I was good to go. I have also used this method to get more life out of them when vapor production falls off. Also noticed you can "tune" them with this method. I mean you can adjust the level of hiss and pop by gently moving the element closer to the carto wall or center depending on what I want to amplify. Closer to the wall and pulling up sligthtly on the wire seems to give more pop closer to the center and pushing down on the wire more hiss. Hope this helps.

My response is for Boge LR 510 cartomizers. Matbe I should have typed that in there but I made an assumption that by replying w/quote and talk of verticle element that it was a given, good luck

The BOGE 2.0's are EXCELLENT. Some of them do 'pop' but I think that is caused by one of two things...

1. Manufacturing inconsistencies. I've measured some as low as 1.5 eventhough they're supposed to be 2's

2. Battery issues. If you use a mod, especially one using an 18650, you're actually getting higher voltage on fresh batteries than the 3.7v you think you're getting. Obviously this isn't true for all mods but for simple circuit mods, it is. Also, some "eGo" style batts suffer from a similar problem.

That said, I still really prefer BOGE LR and reg cartos when I'm using 510's. Sure, some are off but I can live with it.

He was replying to JUJUNONO. But I think you gave some great advice Liv2Ski. I had never really considered moving the element around and how it would affect the popping and hissing.
If you accidently burn the cart and get that bad taste, does moving the element to another side rid that carto of the taste? I assume it would since it's the polyfill that's actually burnt but I haven't tried it. Might have to dig out a burnt carto and try it.

Yes that is exactly the trick. If you take a dead one apart you will see what makes it tick. the element is very thin and if you burn the wadding it is just along the perimeter of the NiChrome element. This wire is small gauge so don't apply too much force. You can get the wire to a "clean" area of the wadding by gently pusrsuading it and eliminate that burnt taste. Enjoy those Boges

Moving the wire around on one of the bad cartos did not seem to help at all for me. I will admit that I have no idea if I am doing it correctly the way you do it. But, I did get it about 90 degrees from it's original position. Meaning, if it started at 12 o'clock, I moved it to about 3 o'clock. It still gave the burnt carto taste and hissed and popped like a mother. I did not want to move it much further than that and break the wire.

Something else I noticed today while working on the bad cartos. The wire and the white sheath thing are sticking up above the filler material on the 2 cartos that burned and it is sticking up just a little bit on the carto that is running hot. I think maybe that has something to do with the issue. None of my other cartos look like that. On all of the other ones, the wire and sheath are embedded in the filler so that the top of the wire is at the same level as the top of the filler material. So now I will be looking for this when I open new cartos. Any ideas why this might be an issue?

No problem Typo - most likely the wadding is burned pretty good down at the bottem. Nice thing is that these are cheap and if you mess it up and it wasn't working good anyway nothing lost right? you could try to run a needle or toothpick down along side the element to coax the lower portion over a bit.

I have also noticed that if you get the wire "above" the wadding it is definatley a real "popper". If you take one apart you will see that the solder joint on the balck lead wire is right near the top of the wadding. I assume if we get that joint close to the top there is little wadding to insulate the the outside of the carto from the heat being generated by the element.

Anway at least the design of the Boge ilends itself to some fiddling and that is always fun. Happy vaping and have a safe an joyous holiday season.

It worked !!! Thank you Liv2ski ! I've been dealing with that funky burnt taste in one of my Boges and it never dawned on me to mess with the heating coil/wire. I just read your post and tried moving it around a little and the nasty taste is gone! THANK YOU! I lost a little flavor and vapor though so I think I'll keep messing with it till I get it "dialed in". Man... I feel like a dumb ... for not thinkin of this.

Thinks for the info boys i took a hooked paper clip and jerked the crap out of 5 bad cartos that tasted like poop and now they are all better. the hole box was messed up

First LR Boge I have tried is popping. It tastes really great though, no burnt taste. Is there something I should do? I have KBV double flavor Jolly Park Ranger in it and it is great. I am really hoping the popping does not mean this one is special (flaw) and the rest won't be as good. LOL!!!!!

no its normal for them to pop when they are new. seems like you have normal good working Boge to me.
