Here is a BF atty mod for ya! I have a Magma that had some bad cosmetic damage so I decided to turn it into something different. I machined out the air tubes and made it quite a bit shorter, and shortened the posts. The oval air holes were created with a vertical mill and rotary table. Now it has adjustable airflow, an O-ring on the base, no threads on the cap and when airflow is wide open, it is crazy airy if you like that kind of thing. The cap fits nice and snug. I have been vaping it all night with a fresh rayon build and this thing kicks .... Absolutely no leaking. I think I will mod my other Magmas like I did here. Not as small as a Derringer but close! :)

That's really cool Johnny, can you take some "in process" pics...I have a number of Magmas on the bench since the D's came along...I don't have a rotary table but I'd love to give it a shot...doable without one?

I was just looking at one of my Mags and I'm thinking to just ditch the afc altogether and go straight hole...I never adjust once I find the sweet spot. I could be wrong but I think the rotary is Johnny's alternative to turning the base/cap down on a lathe...it's brilliant, got another project this weekend :D

edit: Doh!, then how did he do the o ring groove without a lathe:facepalm:

After thinking about it for a bit. I suspect he used the rotary to remove the air channels from the deck which would be tough on a lathe without removing the posts. I'm not familiar with the magma as to if Neg post is removable or not.

It is, it's just pressed in...I've had to fix a couple of them which is why I'm never without shim stock, stuff come in handy. But that's what I was thinking of doing was pulling the center and neg pins and do it all on the lathe...man I hate being an hours drive and an international border from my shop

Just as well I'd be up till 2 am playing :D

Modding the Rogue to BF

Morning guys thought I'd post for you how I modded the Rogue to a BF if anyone wants to try it because it's a great atty with similar performance of the Odin but without the possibility of leaking because of it's top air holes

This is a clone Rogue I got from eBay so I don't know if the original (or other clones) have the same center post setup. Admittedly this particular center post was a major PITA to mod because it has a solid copper screw that screws into the center post.

This is pre modding

I removed the post and took out the 2 piece insulators (1 top and 1 bottom)

I screwed the copper screw in the center post tight and chucked it in the lathe so I can bore it dead center. Since the screw was 3mm thick I decided to bore it with a 1.5mm bit. I started with a stubby bit so the 1.5mm bit wouldn't wander and brake.

Then I switched to the 1.5mm bit and with lots of cutting oil started carefully drilling the screw. (BE VERY CAREFUL !!!!!)

This is with the hole done

Now the problem was that the screw is quite long and needs to be shortened to feed properly

I shortened the screw and drilled the feed holes in the post. The screw was shortened just enough to reach just under the feed holes

I put everything back together and it came out great

It is a great looking atty and puts out some serious clouds with the air wide open. I tried everything to get it to leak, even seriously flooded the deck but nada. I plan to order a couple more

Hope this helps someone

Hey capt. Have you noticed any downside to juice contact with the copper post? I am not concerned about the health implications just have heard some folks can taste copper. I have my eye on an authentic that uses silver plated copper post.

No I haven't noticed any funny taste. As for the original beware because it's not a BF so when you drill that silver plated copper screw you'll expose the copper anyway.

BTW I'm lovin' this Rogue. Now that the coils have been run in a bit it puts out great flavor and tons of vapor. I'm so happy with it I just ordered another 2 and this time I found on eBay a version without the copper screw (of course it could be plated copper).
This thing simply DOES NOT LEAK and what's great is you can squonk as much as you like. Great atty for out and about and very pocket friendly

Yep that's what I was wondering about the funny taste. I guess a guy could sleeve the copper with stainless tubing if one was so inclined. I was looking at the jd tech manta v2. I have a clone on order from CH but I'm thinking if I like it as much as I think I will I am gonna snag an authentic.
