Not ever going back now,the side firing Poldiac is like a Bugotti and the bottom firing Mechs are horse and buggy.Im sick and tired of messing around with the lock.I think its actually a risk to use.The Vela clone from a vendor overseas, for example has no insulator on the bottom firing lock.DANGER....The Mi6 tank style mechs are a just as bad with the weight and siezeing bottons..im fed up..I do believe fully the Poldiac mod is the best mech so far,its all i want to vape with.Loolks like a hunk of jewelry in 18350 mode with a Trident. Now im pulling the Natural of the back burner. This Trident looks good on the Natural too.
My 2 go too setups are the Poly/Kraken (with SS rope) and the Natural/Trident.Goodbye, bottom button.

True, but only by a tad smaller, too small is not good either, depends on the size of your mitts.:)Im actually liking 18350 batts now, time for a change, sittin home ya dont need big batts, just a few tiny ones.Ill bet if you add up the time we spend screwing the bottom,it would longer tha the time it takes too vape,it adds up.I have too lock them for saftey,i now despise them, the Nemmy is for ok for a bottom fire, the Vela blows.

A bottom button that can't stand upright without firing is no good, imo. Thankfully, a lot of them can; recessed button or not. Been looking at the poldiac but that button section looks to add an inch or more to the tube. Not for me. If I was to carry such a big thingy, I'd rather take an 18490 battery than an extra inch worth of empty tubing.

For home use, I don't care about size and use a lot of 18650s. Side button or not; I still prefer the button to be at the bottom. Finally giving pinkies a purpose.

I rarely use 18350s anymore, because most of my stuff is sub ohm. Either too close to, or beyond the safe limits for 700 or 800 mAh batteries. Mostly I use 18650s. 18490s once in a while.

There is nothing inherently wrong with bottom firing mods, if you don't like them that's just personal preference and I don't see the point in starting a thread to bash them. Bad designs are bad designs regardless of whether the button is on the side or the bottom. I'm not sure how the lack of an insulator on a cheap clone says anything about bottom firing mods in general.

Your problem with locking rings is also just a personal preference issue, and isn't really even related to the bottom vs side button debate. Many side button devices also feature locking rings, and just because the button is on the side doesn't mean it can't be depressed by keys or something else in your pocket. Locking rings improve safety, not the other way around as you imply

I'm not trying to be a jerk or anything, I just don't really see the point in this thread. New people doing research might come across this thread and think there is something wrong with bottom buttons simply because some guy prefers his Poldiac to a cheap chinese caravela clone. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but not entitled to passing it off as fact.

The only mech mod I have is a bottom firing one. Never once fired it accidently. It is magnetic (not spring) , and I can stand it up, with a heavy kayfun lite clone on it...and it won't fire.

Hey HR, ya think this winter is ever going to be over up here?!

IMO it's a matter of personal opinion. I have a K100 and a Nemesis clone and they are my workhorses. I've had the K100 for about a year now and it's seen a lot of use. Bought it from Cavnvape. It has the floating 510 pin which is great :). I put magnets in the Nemesis and that made it quite smooth which surprised me. Neither of these come close to firing by themselves even with a heavy RBA on them.

I have a KTS side button that I keep for backup. I really prefer bottom buttons.

And with 0.5 - 0.6 ohms being my typical resistance, I wouldn't be able to use 18350s. I don't really have any reason to go small, specially at home.

In the end it's all about personal preferences. Glad you 're finding what works for you :thumb:

I agree that bottom firing has issues. Even with something as classy and well made as my Caravela, when I lock and unlock, I pretty much always have to unscrew the button and re-adjust everything because the process of unlocking ruins the throw. Nemesis is a pretty mod, but it wobbles under a weighty atty in 18650 mode. Origin mixed brass and SS is also great looking, but it's hard to lock and unlock - the locking ring is so thin.

I'm to the point these days that I just don't lock my mods... unless I am carrying them in my purse. But my preference is to remove the battery instead.

Very interesting Vwls. I only have experience with the K100 and Nemesis clones. I have not had any of your issues with either. The K100 is flawless. I have never had it fail to fire unless I've failed to clean it for a few months and I'm not going to fault it for that ;).

The Nemesis is a bit trickier, but I have never had it go off setup from locking/unlocking it. IMO its lack of dependability comes from the 510 screw, but I'm not sure of that yet. I had a look at the Caravela just now and if I understand it correctly the lock ring is quite small. Maybe that's part of it in that it's hard to turn just the lock ring? Does that make any sense?

I think I'm going to design a mod with a floating 510 pin (I really like that feature), the same basic switch design as the K100 and with looks more in the direction of the Nemesis and call it the RD1 (Ryedan Dependable 1), LOL.
