You most likely haven't put enough juice in the carto. Fill it up by slowly dripping juice down the sides. Stop when you bearly see some standing juice on the material inside. Put the covers back on and normally I would then stand the carto in the plastic covers with the threaded end on the bottom. Let the carto set for 10/15 minutes and let the juice settle. If the carto is full, you should get just a little juice to come out of the thread area. Wipe and vap. Some times I also roll the carto on its side a little bit to spread the juice through out the carto.

When atomizers are shipped to you, they still contain some kind of protective oil coating on/in them. This may be where you are getting the funky flavor you are experiencing. Prior to using, that oil substance needs to be blown out as much as possible. I use a can of compressed air for doing this. You can pick those up at Wal-Mart for about $5.00. Once you've got that cleaned out as much as possible, go ahead and use your atomizer. You should notice a difference relatively soon as that oil will burn off pretty quickly.

I am receiving the beginning of my stuff today by recommendation of a friend.
I ordered an ego kit, cartos, LR atty, and a bunch of juices.
Then I got carried away reading and youtubing and I ordered a whole lot of DIY stuff which won't be here until maybe next week. That definitely seems more up my alley. I'll be starting out with the juices I ordered with my kit to start, though.
I have a couple questions.
First - I got the kit with 2 batteries but I've come to understand that I will need an extra or two. Especially after reading all the ego battery problem threads. I guess I can't say where I ordered from but my kit is called "Riva (eGo)". Which batteries do I need to order as backups? Can I get an extended type batt?
I was also wondering if there was a such thing as a pass thru for the ego? I haven't seen any mention of one for my kit specifically. I think those are my only remaining questions. Which is pretty good because a couple days ago I had absolutely no clue what any of this carto, atty, cart, etc jazz was.

That's what is so great about the ego's. There's tons of places to buy parts. I have purchased the extended ego (tornado) batteries from Totally Wicked. I have found that I like to have a complete replacement on hand. So I have 2 extra batteries, 2 atomizers and 2 cones that I keep in the drawer. When a battery/atomizer dies, I go and purchase another one of each.
Yes, there is an ego passthrough. I believe it's at Route 66 vapor.
An estimate would about 8 to 10 puffs for every 3 drops, per posters who use the drip method to vape.
A refilled cartomizer lasts me about an hour. When I refill cartos, they each take about 1/2 ml of liquid (about a half of the taller condom full), maybe just a little less. I don't vape cartos dry but stop and change cartos when I can tell that the one I'm vaping is getting dry. There will be less throat hits, less vapor, and less flavor. Try not to vape a carto until you get a burnt taste. At that point, change cartos for sure.
I've found that the condom method is the easiest, quickest, and best way to refill cartos. The filler inside gets nicely saturated, and it's not hard to do. Just drip or pour some liquid into the taller condom, slowly insert the mouth end of the carto into the liquid until you see a drop coming out of the threaded end, then I use my finger and thumb to turn the condom/carto upside down for a few seconds, then I take the condom off, wipe off the carto, put the white mouth end cap back on, and then put a short condom onto the threaded end and store it threaded end down for about 24 hours before I vape it.
Sounds like you need to add some VG to the liquid you're using, which is vegetable glycerine. Walmart sells a 6 oz bottle called Glycerin for $3.00. This can be found usually on the shelf above the rubbing alcohol products in the pharmacy section. When mixing my liquids, I'll add 20% to 40% Glycerin with the pre-mixed liquids bought from various online suppliers. After testing 4 suppliers, I've settled on buying only from FreedomSmokeUSA.com...mainly RY4, Apple, Mixed Nut, Caramel. Their pre-mixed liquids (I usually order 60PG/40VG) taste the best to me and have the best throat hits. They sell 120ml bottles for $40, so it comes to $10 per 30ml bottle. An empty carto takes a lot more than 6 drops. Harshness can be caused by too high nicotine strength or not enough VG (which helps to dilute the other liquid). If you add more than 33% Glycerin to your other liquids, you'll probably notice a decrease in flavor. Adding 20% to 33% of Glycerin is about right, depending on the nicotine strength and how much you want to decrease the strength. Like if you add 24mg caramel, 24mg apple, and Glycerin, 1/3 each, (be sure to mix it in a separate bottle first before filling a carto), the resulting nicotine strength would be 16mg.

However I did notice that they are FULL. Like liquid is just kinda hanging out pooled in there. I'm guessing that's why you let them sit for a while. I have mine in the condom batt end down like you suggested. I'll see how that goes tomorrow.
What's weird about today is that everything seems to be vaping a WHOLE lot better. I'm just using a cart that came with the starter kit that I filled last night. Tastes completely different than it did yesterday. I can really taste the flavor of the black tea liquid I have. Is this from sitting, soaking overnight? So I filled a few more and I'll be sticking with that until I figure out the cartos. I might even order a drip tip for the time being. I'm just glad I woke up to a pleasurable experience today. Yesterday left a bad taste in my mouth haha

For good flavorful carto's try the E2 R4 ceramics you taste much more of the juice with them and they're a bit less messy to fill(you'll need a syringe) you can fill them and vape no waiting for juice to be asorbed. They are out of stock most places atm though.

Even through my issues I have still managed to be smoke-free since my kit came in almost 24 hours ago. And I know everyone says this but it's been quite effortless. I have a half pack of cigs left and they have been sitting right next to me but I haven't touched one. I'm thinking once I get the hang of this it should get even easier.

dfwvapor has them in stock but kinda price $15 or 16 not sure if they're any coupon codes around to knock it down a bit, most other places are $11 or 12 for the XL's but they're all OOS for now. I got mine from vaperite not sure if he still has any.

No, sorry, you don't have to remove the white cap first. Sometimes I do and sometimes I don't.
I let the cartos sit overnight (and preferably for about 24 hours) because everything is better when I do - throat hits, flavor, and vapor.

So I finally got to try one of the cartos I had filled yesterday but the results weren't great.
I did exactly what Deback suggested but they don't seem to produce any vapor compared to my regular modded carts.
Are cartos just not for me? Should I just stick with my carts for now?

Oh sweet. I just realized my last real cig was over 48 hours ago while walking to the mailbox to get my goodies.

Depends on what ohm the cartos are compared to your attys. Cartos and attys can range from 1.5ohm to 3.5ohms. Also, if your cartos are overfilled they will produce very little vapor at first.
