Hi to all. I am a pack and half a day smoker. Sometimes more (for over 35 years) Want to quit, This forum is amazing, but I was on information overload and not too sure what to do. So we have a local store here with e-cigs. Bought a starter kit that just states E-Cigarette. On the not so useful user's manual it states"portable charging case - DSE901/DSE801/DSE510/DSE906.

Now I know this is not the go to for everyone that has been vaping, but for me it seems to be a good starter kit to see if I can do this.

I know I read on here somewhere (but can't find it again) so forgive me if I am repeating what has already been asked.

I, like a lot of newbies, ordered juice with "tobacco" flavors and 2 apple ones. When I tried the tobacco ones, I cough terribly (don't cough with cigs) The apple one does not seem to produce the violent coughing.

Also all the juices seem the same to me. No wonderful flavors. Is that just my dead tastebuds?

First day, terrible sore throat. Normal?

As this is getting long, I will save other questions for another time. Thank you to all

Hello Jazzmom, and welcome to the forum. Switching from smoking to vaping usually makes most cough. My coworker had this problem. I lowered his nicotine, and that solved his problem. Also people cough from the propylene glycol in the juice. Try a juice that contains more vegetable glycerin. As for the flavor, the taste buds will get better in time from the transition. Drink plenty of liquids to keep your throat from drying out, and your throat will feel better. Good luck to you, and Vape on!!! :)

Sore throat is probably from the vaping, it tends to dehydrate... Drink lots of fluids, that should help. As far as the flavors, give it some time, your tastebuds are in recovery mode so they may take a little while to be able to pick up the flavors. Or, you just gotten juice that is very lightly flavored.... I don't like tobacco flavors, I'm vaping mostly Creme De Menthe, Ectoplasm, Pchela's Five Famous Layers and a few home-made fruit mixes.... I'm using mostly 70/30 juices at 18 - 24 mg, which seems to work out pretty good for me these days............. Good luck to you and Welcome to ECF! :vapor:

The DSE's are what I started on about 2 years ago.. they're the China special.. everyone selling kits has some version of them. If you got your juice with them, it's probably the cheap dekang stuff as well. It's a good place to start, but it actually sent me back to smoking for another year, since I just couldn't make the switch. Give it a shot, but if you start to waiver, let me offer you some relatively cheap alternatives to your DSE kit..

This is actually the starter kit I would recommend any new people.. you'll eventually move on to better stuff, but for me, this is what allowed me to go to vaping full time, and leave the analogs behind..

Kit - KGO kit1100mAh by SLB

Cartomizers (you can buy lots of places, but I'll link to the same site) - 2.0 ohm low resistance cartomizers

then you just need juice, and you're all set. I started off trying to find good tobacco flavors, and then eventually realized I never liked tobacco in the first place.. so I vape mostly fruit blends w/ a bit of menthol added in. Rawrvapor.com is the best (IMO) for that, but you can find plenty of places are to buy juice.

Hope that helps.. and good luck! :)

Thanks for all the replies. I definitely (if this works) will want to switch to a longer battery life.

I have bought juice from Freedom Smokes - 50/50 pg/vg - 18 mg nicotine. The small samples were 24 and only bought one of those.

One more question - I messed up and somehow mixed juices in the (forgot name of it!) end where the filler is where you drip the juice in - would just washing them work, buy new?

BrandonSi - Do the cartomizers not use a filler? Just fill with juice?

Cartomizers are cartridges + atomizers in one unit.. It makes things easier, each unit is disposable, and a good cartomizer can last 1-2 weeks (though you'll probably notice the decline in performance before it full dies, and just replace it). They use polyfill, so there is a filler, which traps the e-juice. There are a couple methods you can use to remove the filler from the vaping equation, but that's a different discussion.
