Brass mortar

So I just got a brass mortar and I've got a quick question for those that have or had one. When I connected the trident atty it was really tight and it doesn't sit flush. I adjusted the pin and it still sits about a cm above. I included a pic.

After looking more closely at the atty and mortar I can see that the threading on the atty stops preventing from a flush mount.
