So I think everyone here probably knows that getting resistance wire can be hard here. It sounds like most people order online, which is fine, and maybe cheaper. But I personally like to be able to go to a store and pick it up instead of having to be at the whims of waiting for stuff to come in the mail.

Up till recently, the only place I knew of in Tokyo that had Nichrome wire was Sengoku. They have a store front down in Akihabara. They sell a lot of wire sizes but they lacked the right millimeter I needed. They have .32mm and .20mm and nothing in between, which makes it hard to get the right resistance. On the 25th though I went to another store front that sold heating supplies and asked about wire there, I checked it out because the guy that runs Nexmoke.com (JP vape store) had posted in his blog about having found Kanthal in Akiba.

I went to the store and got 5m of .30mm wire which has worked beautifully for me. Cost me about 700-800yen. Here is the store from Street View. Its the one with the signs that say "9/2 Open." Store name is 坂口電熱. The Nexmoke guy was doubtful about whether it was Kanthal or not because when he asked if the wire was domestic made they said yes, but with the .3mm I got, I can do an 8 wrap coil and get 1.8ohms on it which I can't do on the nichrome I get from Sengoku that is .32mm. But it could be that Kanthal has a manufacturing center here in Japan, which is why they said its "Domestic."

Thought I would just pass this info along for those in Tokyo.

.25 would work though I think. But I'd pay international shipping on that, but it'd be more wire than I would ever need probably. But I still like the convenience of going to a shop. But ya, nothing is cheap in Japan.

EDIT: I will say that it still boggles my mind that I can't find a reseller with a full selection of gauges of Kantal because Kanthal DOES distribute in Japan. Here is their website in Japan. Maybe I just need to email them and find out where in Tokyo they have a distributor.
