I started vaping in June 2011 and quit smoking cigarettes completely in September 2011. After so many purchases, I've finally found what really works for me and my ridiculously small budget. I thought I'd share it so other don't have to waste money on the things they really don't need.

All you really need is this:

1. Ego Starter Kit.

Liberty-Flights sells the cheapest ones I've seen for $49.99.

Electronic Cigarette - Starter Kits - Joye eGo

Toss they atomizers because they're useless. However, I'm still using the same two batteries I purchased in June 2011, along with two additional batteries I purchased last fall!

2. Mega cartomizers.

Mad Vapes sells them for $2.79 each. Replace the atomizers with these. They last me for a good month or so.

eGo Mega Dual Coil Cartomizer, Flat Tip

3. Bulk e-juice.

Yes, there's MANY tempting flavors out there, but I've found that after trying a good 30 flavors from various vendors that menthol works best for me. Instead of buying lots of little 10/30ml bottles at $10-$20 each, I now buy a huge 180ml bottle of Robacco Menthol from BlueMist for $30. 180ml lasts a long, long time! I also learned to avoid any coffee, caramel or dark juices. They gum up the cartomizers and it's just not worth the flavor to me. Nice, clean 80PG/20VG juices are best when using cartomizers.

BlueMist Vaping Supplies

Personally, I carry around 4 e-cigs at all times and I hardly spend any money on this habit at all -- compared to spending $6 every 1-2 days when smoking cigarettes!

I read lots of stuff on this forum about mods, and I have nothing against them, but I think a lot of people are scared away by talk of mods. I know for me, personally, it made me confused and also made me think I needed stuff that I really didn't need. Sure, if you have money to blow, go ahead and experiment, but if you're like me and you don't have the cash, stick with the basics. I successfully quit smoking 8 months ago after smoking for 20 years using just the items listed above. Be sure to do a little maintenance to make your batteries last longer too. I always clean up the battery opening with a tissue after each refill.

Just my two cents! Wanted to post this on the New Members Forum, but it wouldn't allow me to.

Vape on, party people!

Nice post.
I have found cheapest options for the whole. But I need to try this atom . Even tough ego c is still cheap but I am new so I keep trying!
Does it last 1 month our so? Good taste? Do you repair it?
Probably you were lucky with batteries I hear many people having problems very soon and that is why (almost more power) they finally buy mods.

I think the taste and vapor production from mega cartomizers is very good. I don't repair them...I just toss them when they get gunked up, but I know I read some posts on here about cleaning cartomizers and those people seemed to have some success with it.

I'll say this...if I weren't for me knowing 'the trick', two of my batteries would have been considered 'dead' probably 5 months ago! Sometimes that center pin in the battery gets pushed down too low. Take a paper clip and gently pull up the center pin before pitching a battery. I've gotten literally 5+ months extra life out of two of my batteries because I pull up the pin a little before charging every day. If I don't, when I plug the charger in, the battery doesn't blink to indicate it's charging. I'm so happy to have read about that little trick on this forum! :)

Liberty-Flights sells the cheapest ones I've seen for $49.99.

Electronic Cigarette - Starter Kits - Joye eGo

Although those models are currently not in stock, with the 20% discount, I paid $36 each!

2. Mega cartomizers.

Mad Vapes sells them for $2.79 each. Replace the atomizers with these. They last me for a good month or so.

eGo Mega Dual Coil Cartomizer, Flat Tip

I still buy these!

3. Bulk e-juice.

I DIY.

Your # 1 & 2 is what I try to obtain for my vaping converts, current count @18.

Great post for a common sense, economical and very satisfying vape combo!

There are a bazillion different ways to vape on a budget, and they are all good ... just different. Vaping only costs a kings ransom if you want it to.

The expencive part can be learning what will work fsor you. You can only buy them and try them. Just remember that the nicotine is in the juice, not the battery.

So true, took me about 6 mods, numerous batteries, and countless juices for me to find my sweet spot.

Great post, that is exactly the set up I settled on - EGO/EMDCC/Bluemist !! I do pick up some juices from other vendors, mostly Highbrow, as a treat :)

Also, I use the KGOs instead of EGOs as they give just a little extra kick :)

I've tried a few other types of cartomizers, including the vision stardust, but keep coming back to the EGO mega dual coils for consistency and ease of use.

I've also had good luck with cleaning the EMDCCs as long as the inner tube part doesn't collapse. Pbusardo has a great video out there on cleaning cartomizers, boiling them several times in succession until the steam has no smell.

After boiling and blowing them out, I put them in the oven for a couple of hours at a little over 200 degrees to speed up the drying process.

At $2.79 a pop it's nice to be able to re-use alot of them.

Another extreme budget vaper here. One thing I would recommend to all budget vapers is to search for a a good deal on a lavatube. You can pick up kits for very cheap nowadays. Also, surevapes.com has great deals on boges so that you could get them for under $1 ea. shipped. Bluemist is a must for me for buying my all day vapes. I generally buy 180ml of smooth which is satisfying. From time to time I treat myself to other vendors.

Taste is definitely subjective....LOL. I got 6 EMDCCs.....they tasted so nasty to me, I tossed them all in the garbage.
