The wife left me alone this morning, in a empty house. So I went out into the shop to play. Thinking about this DIY kit. I found an old Stanwell pipe that was in the nail drawer out here in the shop. Not sure where it come from, has been in there for years. I would call it a small pipe. So the new battery holder will just fit in it with the wires running up the sides. There will be an o-ring at the bottom of the battery holder and a backing plate. The o-ring I have on there is to big but, you can see were it goes. As you tighten the screw inside the battery holder, it will smash the o-ring causing it to expand. This is what will hold the battery holder in the pipe bowl. The screw in the bottom of the holder will also be used as a contact point for the positive side of the battery. There will be a spring down there too. There is a lip on the battery holder that will sit on the top of the bowl to cover the hole. This way the DIYer can carve out the bowl with whatever to fit in the battery holder. The o-ring will take up any miss fit and the lip will dress up the top of the bowl. The top cap will be in two pieces. The first will be a locking ring that will tie down the wires and make the connections. I have some ideas on how that is going to work. The second part of the cap will be the push button and how you get to the battery to change it. I took some pics for scale. Not going to be able to work on it again until next week. This is just a proto-type for fit. If it works out, I'll make a mold and have it made out of plastic. Alum won't work. That's all I got.
