I'm using the itaste mvp 2.0 and a kayfun replica. ive been doing a little research on coil building and I do about 8 wraps of 28g kanthal wire. the wraps are close and heat from the inside out. ive tried an inch of silica wick, and 2, 3, 4 etc. still cant handle 11 watts. that's what I vape on and I don't want to lower it. It reads at about 1.0 - 1.2 ohms. at 6 watts I get a great taste. at 11 watts im vaping burning cardboard practically. any help on what I should do?

You have wicking issues most likely. Silica is not my choice of wicks. Cotton will wick better, hemp is even better and Ramie is my preferred wick of choice. I've only built the Russian twice with silica, when I went micro coils, 8 months ago, went to cotton, and now using ramie.

2 main points of focus is the density of the wick through the coils, to dense and juice can get choked off, to thin and not enough juice can be wicked. Just right, no dry hits. With silica, a losses wrap can cause a hot spot and create dry hits.

The other point of focus is, not getting fiber caught in the threads when securing the containment ring, this can clog the juice channels and lead to dry hits. I fold the wick tails straight up while securing the containment ring, then gently tuck them into the juice decks. Saturate wick, assemble fill and vape. All should be good in the world of vape!!

I vape my Russian at 30 watts with no wicking issues and have a stellar vape.

I too, at times, have issues with wicking in my kayfun clones.

I use a 30/70 mix and sometimes have to get it primed up after loosing the vacuume when refilling. Depending oh how I fill the tank ( bottom fill or pulling the top cap).

I do 5 wraps with 28g on a nemesis clone and it's all good once I get it primed up. I use cotton so, it is immediately apparent when it's not wicking.

I had similar issues with a different tank. I didn't understand why I couldn't before high wattage like everyone else. I use the term "high wattage"loosely because all I wanted was to vape higher than 7 watts.

Turned out to be caused entirely by the wick. I had too much and it was choking at the coil.
