Hi, this is my 1st time vaping.

Burnt: 1 3ohm 510 atty from Provape; 1 Boge 3ohm 510 atty from AVE

How I did them:
3 drops of ECB New Red box (80/20) to start
Controlled drag while pressing down, about 4-5 sec -- is this too long?
10 – 15 puffs later, vapor reduced and lost TH, add 2-3 drops
Voltage range 4.7 – 5.5

Now trying to be careful with 3rd, shortening drag and add juice more often (till it gurgles)
Both provaris show OP on the dead attys

Are these attys really so fragile?

Thanks

Think of the atty like the filament in a light bulb. You don't want it to get too hot too fast. Keeping it wet helps keep the temperature down. When the button is held too long or when the atty is too dry, it will go red-hot for only a few tenths of a second, then snap just like a dead lightbulb. There are videos that can tell you how to put in a new coil, but its time consuming and fiddly. If you don't want to put in a new coil, its game over. Dead atty.

You should vape whatever way works best for you, but I would be remiss not to point out that my own atty burning experience is why I only use cartomizers now.

With a brand new atty it does take a little while for it to "break in". Probably around 5 drops will do it. After that I usually drop 3-4 drops maybe more if I'm using a drip shield. You should be able to tell when you need more drops in it. Like Wickedwench said you don't want to dry burn it too much. 4-5 second drags sounds about right.
What device are you using?

Something called a drip shield can help. I use one from empire mods, avid vaper and other places also have them.

A little metal tube, o-rings top and bottom (I removed the top one on mine). The DS slides over the atty, and over the atty/battery connector (covering any air inlet holes -- I use a shortie sealed adapter with my drip shield, the DS goes around the top part of the adapter).

With a DS you are "safe" adding eliquid early and often -- the DS acts like a catch cup to hold any excess eliquid in, so it doesn't dribble out the bottom.

I'm surprised you're even getting 10 - 15 puffs, that it isn't a really horrible dry burn taste before then.

Then again, carto tanks can be excellent to use, remove the feeding guesswork :)

A brand new atty needs alot more than 3-4 drops to start off with...try dripping 7 drops and wait 1 min drip 3 more and vape. If it starts to leak take a dry pull to suck the juice back up and vape. Drip shield's are a must imo if you want to be a dripper...even if you become a pro dripper.

Nah. You get to know your atties and get more practice and then one magical day *poof* no more flooding. You'll get it hon. Too much juice is better than not enough though.
And take this from someone who used to be such a chronic overdripper that she flooded an HH357.

Many thanks for the tips.
I have 20+ samples to test, and there will be more in the future…
I do use a drip shield with 510-510 sealed adaptor from EM. It looked like many factors have been in play: the red box with heavy ashtray and somewhat burn flavor, my inexperience and humble taste buds, juice in mouth and throat, and a bit carelessness.
So far I have tried/learned:
  • Feeling the differences by hearing that little gurgling noise, by pushing and dragging slightly into the atty (when it is empty, with a drop or 2, and when it contains plenty)
  • Drag mildly, like half the strength I would on an analog.
The good news is I haven’t smoked for 9 hours, no craving yet.
Say, by a very rough estimate, how many puffs do YOU get from 1 drop?

Hi.

Uh... 10 hits at 5 volts with 3.0 ohms (for me).
3 drops... 10 hits. 3 drops, 10 hits....

I wouldn't go over 5 volts with 3.0 ohms. Prolly why it popped. I don't use drip shields or other stuffis. Been doing it two years. Keep it wet. You should seldom get gurgling or dry hits. You'll learn to tell just before it gets too dry.

Order more atties... fast. Mine last over a month.. then I swap em. However, you're getting pretty low for a guy that just burned two out learning stuff.

Also, in a pinch, for example... the blu e-cig cartos are 510 compatible and would be used around 3.5 volts +/-. Also may want to order cartos to see if you like em. Maybe a syringe to refill them. Just a thought. (I use atties and drip, but even I have some cartos around for spares/driving. Cheap spares for emergencies.)

If it's flooded...blow it out into a napkin and start over.
