Hello all,

I am still fairly new to this place. I will hit my 5 month mark in a few days!
I have been using the Evod but to be honest I am getting tired of doing the dry burn and tasting the burnt junk for at least a half an hour after. I probably need to replace the silica wick but I haven't gotten that far yet. I tend to use the darker juices, Caramel, Boba's Bounty, Vanilla's, etc and I know that has a lot to do with it.

Is there something out there that doesn't use the coils like the Evod? I get so frustrated when I get that burnt taste and I just want to go back to the ease of grabbing a cigarette! I don't want anything that looks like a brick, I'm a lady and prefer the more slender look like the Evod.

I just took all of mine apart and did the dry burn and on one of them it looked like the coil was out of whack, not straight across like it should be. Is it broken, can it be repaired?

Arrrgh!

Hi.

Welcome to the "it's all junk, e-cigs are a PITA, why does it have to be so complicated?" stage of vaping. lol. (laughing with you on that one).

There's so many options that it gets to be a pain. And...they all use coils of one kind or another.

The evod heads are replaceable (I'm sure you know that) and come with new wicks. That's the easiest way, but most expensive. There's also the "not dry-burning" approach where you don't try to turn everything to ash. Just rinse/soak the coil in hot water, blow it out and repeat a few times then "warm it up a while" to dry it out. But when the sizzle stops, stop burning.

They can be rebuilt too. But if you're going to get into building coils, you may as well investigate other options that don't require micro-surgery skills. RDAs, RBAs, etc. There's an entire section on rebuildable stuff and everyone has a favorite. If that's your bent. Many are not petite, however.

Kayfun mini? na, probably to big. you just looking for a replaceable or are you interested in rba's? There are a lot of options out there, but depends on what you are willing to do or ready for. Possibly something in the 14500 or 10440 form factor would be more to your liking. What kind of device are you currently using?

Another option might be a carto tank. They are slightly bigger but can be customized to look more lady like. You can put a pink or purple drip tip on a tank with flowers. Or skulls and cross bones... whatever floats your boat. The cartos are expendable so it it tastes bad throw it out and replace... but you can do that with the eVod coils also.

I do order replacements and use them. In the couple of times I've taken them apart to clean them it looks as though the flavor wick is burnt beyond recognition. I've tried soaking them in vodka and in water but I still get a dry yucky taste after putting them back in. I've even added juice to the sides of the wick before loading it back up.

dice57, I have no idea what you are talking about, I have no idea what an rba is :)
Maybe I would be better off getting some silica and replacing that or is there something better out there to use?

Thanks all for your suggestions! :)

I replace all my silica with cotton yarn. Sugars and cream brand to be exact. Supppper cheap and wayyyyy easy. Search the forum- I learned 'how to' here :) I think that you better search peaches and cream -lol. Same same. I haven't bought new coils in a while (except when i get new clearos that use diff heads) Good luck!

I have found the little rubber cap that goes on the coil housing is a fraction of a mm too long, you can take an exacto and cut a teeny notch where the wick sits, allowing the wick to not be choked and wick better (or as I do with my vivi nova mini clone and CE4S's or CE6's is back the drip tip/cap off 1/2 turn) which lets more juice thru, not so loose it starts leaking or gurgling.

(found the below with a quick google)
http://www.canadavapes.com/instructions/ce4/
Rubber Housing Adjustment

This modification is not normally necessary, however a small percentage of clearomizers may experience improved performance with this modification. The rubber cover that seals the mouthpiece sometimes can be a bit too long. By cutting the very bottom of the rubber it can increase the flow of e-liquid to the heating coil, thus increasing performance. NOTE: It is not recommended you do this mod unless you are having performance issues.

Remove mouthpiece
Using needle nosed players, gently pull the metal tube out of the CE4 clearomizer. The rubber cap on top of the heating coil will also come out.
Cut about 1-2mm off of the bottom of the rubber cap.
Place the metal tube back into the rubber cap.
Gently re-insert the rubber cap into the clearomizer, being sure it is seated evenly on top of the heating coil.

Silica wick can burn... or melt actually. I learned the hard way. I heated it up with the torch at work trying to get rid of the nasty taste I was getting. It kinda turned really hard. I went to heat and oxidize some SS mesh and it turned to dust in less than a second... I really didn't think it was that hot 24" away.

Do you buy this at Walmart? I saw a different post and that's where they said they bought it.

Hi. I am right there behind you. I like the tobaccos and the caramels and darker, sweeter juices. They do tend to gunk up the works quicker than the nice light juices. I replace my Evod heads but save the old ones for the day I may get brave enough to try to rebuild. I clean mine in vodka and rinsing and let them dry out. If you can find a coop or sale and buy the heads in quantity the price is not bad.

What I have success with is dripping into a plain Joye 510 atty. Even with the darker juices I get good life out of one atty and I just blow it out every day or two. I am very happy with the vape I get and no burnt taste.

Dan G:

it can burn??? mmmm saw a guy at madvapes burn one, not very long with a torch, didnt hurt it he said they dont burn, maybe they do, its in video at madvapes in the smok bottom feeder sales stuff, but you might be right

thats heavy man you burnt one didnt know you could,,,, wowwa wowohh lua
The torch I was using was oxy-propane, it is designed to cut metal... quickly... I had it turned down to a light blue flame I knew it was hot but not that hot... I probably should have been more specific. It was designed to do a completely different job, my propane torch at home was out of gas so I figured I would upgrade. It pretty much turned it to glass. Steep learning curve I suppose.

Although it's cheaper to rebuild the heads, they're really not very expensive. You can get a 5-pack from Discount Vapors for about $6. The way I look at it, that's less that what I spent for 1 pack of cigs. One of these days I might get into rebuilding heads, but it's a little too fidgety for me :)

I'm in the same boat. I've watched many videos on changing the coils/wicks in many different clearos, and although I realize it's not very complicated, I'm not ready to take that leap yet. The replacements are cheap and easy enough for now, although I'm definitely going to buy what I'll need to do it so that someday when I "let my replacements run out" I can recoil/wick it myself lol. Or that's the plan at least. ;)
