Burning Cartomisers? Dangerous?-510/Kr808/4081...etc filler type cartos

Lorikay, dear, the 510s are inconsistent too. I got one box of duds a couple of weeks ago, bad taste, burning, I thought it was just a QC issue; remember I mentioned there was something wrong with the tan cartos. Now there's trouble with another box, this time the black ones. I'm going to email Ross and report. When those Trumans are good, they are great, but when they are bad...

I just got a box of the yellow (filter) 510's from VaporsEtc. I've used 2 so far (on a standard 510). Both burned within the first 10 drags. They are still visibly wet (i put 30 damn drops in them). I have stopped at 2, because i dont feel like throwing away any more juice...

This is a very irritating design flaw, IMHO. I can never align my eGo carto on my batteries and that causes me great aggrevation. I think they should be redesigned; the whistle tip should be removable and adjustable; and those two little pieces inside should become one part that comes off easily, creating a larger/more convenient opening to the reservoir, thus allowing for easy refills with regular drip-tip bottles. The needles are a pain.

And that plastic cup at the bottom should be ceramic and the wicking material should be retested. I (and a lot of other people) still get that funky, chemical smell that comes from that area (not burning, more like melting plastic.) I crushed and sniffed every eGo cartomizer that went bad. [Scott was right, as usual.]

Have a good week, y'all.

OK. But as long as you have an auto battery, that shouldn't be a problem... Are the auto's any good? I had several 510 auto batteries, and they were garbage!

Salt, there is a problem with some of them. It's not just you and I (we're really good at burning things), but I know that the same thing happened to a very experienced carto user, one of the ECF veterans, as a matter of fact, so it's no longer in the user error category. I emailed Ross this morning because I had another one, a black one this time, burn and go totally dead for no apparent reason. Freshly filled with over 1 ml of very good eliquid. Just fried and died.

Ross at Vapors Etc. responded to my email promptly and sounded concerned. I'll be sending him the dead carto so he can examine it and try to work with the supplier/manufacturer on identifying the problem and finding a solution. He wants to see the burnt cartos and hear from the customers who experience similar problems, so if you don't mind sending him an email, it would help us all. He sounds very nice and is willing to replace the bad ones. All I know is that when they are good, they are really, really good.

In the meantime, I ordered the new 510s from IkenVape; WW likes them.

I've never had an auto eGo, so I can't help you. Why don't you ask the nice ladies at Cignot. They sell both kinds and they are very helpful. They also sell the giant atomizers and cartridges that Kent uses and recommends. Did you read his post re. mega eGo carts, above (#2165)?

BTW, I'm using the the giant eGo cartomizer with the Riva right now and since I got those oiler bottles, the refilling became much easier. [But the button is still at an awkward angle.]

The Tru-Vapors from VaporsEtc.
I've had a few that burned on the first fill. They mostly last me anywhere between 3 to 4 days.
One thing you have to keep in mind about these cartos is that you CAN NOT treat them like a 3 ohm carto.
The last one I burnt was this morning which was after a weekend of using a 3 ohm carto and switched to one of these and burnt it in 6 puffs.
The 3 ohm cartos demand long drags to get a good vapor going.
With the tru-vapors you have to get two good puffs and let go of that switch. And keep them wet.
I'm using them on a 3.7V mod.

Excellent point, nicnac! That may in fact be one of the major reasons some people have more problems than others.....not user error....but simply user style....I have not had the guts to open up one of my husbands cartos yet....I learned a trick from Drew a long time ago...he calls it "double clutching"....although an imperfect answer still better than a super long draw....but two short draws with a switch release inbetween.

and yes I know...the huge draw back (no pun intended) is that battery charge life is based on switch activation in some batteries so this technique might significantly shorten your battery life...like I said...imperfect...but maybe better than overheating?

I feel extremely lucky, 2 packs of the Tru-Vapor 510s and no duds yet. I just ordered 3 more packs so I'm bound to get one sooner or later. I'll let Ross know if I experience any problems. Thanks for the heads up Kat!!

ya just couldn't do it could you? (be good that is)...I'm proud of you!

 I tried, I really, really tried!!! I like the new avitar!!!

Good point nic!!! I only use the Tru-Vapor on the Ego. I did have one on the Chamy for a short bit one time at the end of use and it burned, but I thought it was just because I had used it for a week and it was due.

I have had the same new style SLB on the Chamy since I received them and it's still doing great. Actually it may have gotten better after it broke in a bit, but no burning yet and still good flavor and vapor.

Happy Vaping!!!

Well, the problem with Nicnac's theory is that I am one user with the same style and same batteries. When I get a good box, each carto lasts two or three days and still no burning, just the taste gets funky. When I get a bad box, the cartos fry in seconds, no warning, just a horrible smell and taste and they are dead. And by dead I mean dead. No action.

"Burning" is actually a misnomer, if by burning one means burned filler and such. It's more like an electrical short. Puff... and in an instant... horrid, acrid smoke that closes one's lungs shut and it's over.

when a carto goes bad, it's called a dud.
When a girl goes bad................I'm sure you girls can fill in the blank

Tulsa spelled backwards?

There are no good girls, just bad girls that haven't been caught :) I believe Mae West said that, but I could be wrong.

And my favorite by Meatloaf... Good girls go to heaven, but bad girls go everywhere!!

I haven't had that at all. My next one will probably do that now

I meant burning of the filler.
Are you saying that right after the burning taste, the carto dies completely? I have not had one die completely. what you are describing sounds like a bad manufactured carto. Which cartos did you have this experience with?

Bingo! Finally somebody's paying attention. Total dud. Dead. No burnt filler. The filler doesn't even get a chance to burn. It's a flash and smoke and bye, bye, Charlie. No reading whatsoever on my multimeter. Dead as a doorknob.

I had a bad tan box, but they were just burning, fast and furiously, but conventionally burning. And I had a warning--the burning was always precedeed by a nasty chemical taste.

Now this batch of black cartos is really unusual. They just short right out of the box. I've never had a carto do this before, and I have burned a lot of them, dear, so I know what I'm talking about. This box is evil.

WW and Lorikay, you're both getting detention. :glare:

That is really weird. I don't think I've even heard of a carto just popping like that. Attys yes, cartos no. I ordered 2 boxes of the black ones. My first order was the purple and the tan ones. I'll keep an eye out for ones that pop and go poof.
