Burning up coils, rapidly

I'm going through coils like crazy. I hab been buying cheap disposable tanks that would last from 1 to 5 days. I bought a Kanger mini pro 2 that I like very much but I burn out coils every 1 to 3 days. I tried higher resistance but didn't get any more life from them, just the opposite. I'm burning American Black, Cuban Cigar, and Golden Virginia flavors made at a local shop. They're 100% VG. Could it be the battery? It's a set voltage brand that none of the forum suppliers seem to carry. I've been told some juice burns coils faster than others and the darker juice tends to be the worst. Anyone have some ideas?

I'started out with 100% VG and had the exact same issue. The problem your having is because the liquid is too thick for the atomizer you use. You could try adding a small percentage of distilled water and see if that helps. Otherwise, if you don't want to do that your best option is an atomizer that works well with heavier liquids.

Once you have posted 5 times you are free to search around the forum to see what options are available.

BTW, those juice burnt coils can be restored with a dry burn most likely- one more thing for you to look up:)

Good luck

If the coils are getting gunked up you could try soaking them in vodka overnight or throughout the day. When my coils get "slow" I swap them out, throw the old in the vodka and juggle the cup a few times throughout the day. Blow them off and let dry, the vodka will evaporate in time. I've been vaping a month, haven't had to throw out a coil yet. :::knocking on wood::: The cleaned coils have worked like new for me so far. I vape at around 70pg/30 vg in a similar type tank at times (but this has worked on my Nautilus Minis also). The darker and sweeter juices will clog a coil faster, plus the vg is much thicker than pg. Good luck.

Dry burning pre-made coils isn't always a good plan ... Doesn't work very well, IMHO. Vodka makes a great cleaner and is also a useful diluent. If you decide to upgrade, you may want to look at the Kanger Subtank Mini. It has OCC (organic cotton coil) that accommodates high-VG juice, and it can be rebuilt. Best of luck!

Thanks for the advice. I have a couple soaking in vodka now and it looks like it working. The vodka is turning brown. My other didn't like me wasting her vodka, but it's cheap vodka so ....

Maybe buy her a more expensive bottle to keep the peace! Glad this is working to restore your coils..I don't use tanks, only rebuildables so dry burning is my preferred coil restoration method. I believe the others are correct though about using alcohol for your toppers but rinse them after because alcohol may damage the little silicone or rubber parts and will take off any print on the tanks.

Ooh, that's a bit harsh but you are correct as far as the cheap tanks he keeps replacing. However, he also has a Kanger Pro tank 2 which he is burning up heads for as well which is why I made the recommendations in the 1st post about dry burning and doing research on how to do it. Or else, fixing his juice up to have it less viscous by diluting or upping the pg.

Everyone else seemed to be focused on the cheap tanks he's wasting $$ on. I think he needs to also study up on the subject-couldn't hurt.

I've found the Kanger single coils usually do need a little voltage control. The 2.5 ohm coil should be fine with an unregulated battery but I haven't tried them. I've used the 1.8's and some batteries don't go down low enough, so use the 2.2's. Generic coils can also be OK but concentrate the heat more so have to be even higher.

It can also be good to use 2 such devices, after several hits they can use a little rest.

You didn't say what the cheap clearos were, but EVODs and some others can take the same coils as the PT2. It is possible to take these apart and remove 1 or 2 of the "flavor wicks" on top of the coil, to loosen the valve effect. I also rewick them (real Kanger coils only) with cotton, which is slightly better, even though this is always on an already used coil. If you try this, the coil is cleaned, after removing the wick, by dry burning, washing while still hot, drying, and dry burning again. Dry burning should only be done by pulsing until the coil glows, too hot or long and it will damage the silicone insulators.

Distilled water thins and reduces vapor temperature for VG. I think adding water and a few drops PG would do even more. I tried adding some PG to a VG + 5% water juice and its effect was magnified.

I'd rate the PT2 and EVOD as follows:
Vapor amount 3 out of 10
    durability 9
    finickyness 4
    tank cracker resistance: EVOD 2, PT2 10
flavor amount, per vapor: EVOD 11, PT2 6
    flavor amount, total: EVOD 7, PT2 4
    flavor quality: EVOD 5, PT2 8
(flavor, as always, highly dependent on juice)

Thanks for the help folks. I realize I'm using a fairly cheap setup. Don't have the funds for a more expensive device right now. I've also been told darker juices burn coils faster, but these are what I like. Still trying to quit smoking so I'm sticking to tobacco flavors for now. I've a White Rhino battery. I've noticed that NONE of the forum suppliers carry this brand. I ordered a Smoke Tech batt that'll be here in a couple days but I couldn't spring for adjustable voltage/wattage right now. Thanks again, you all are a font of information.
