Good afternoon everyone,

vaping has been going pretty well for me since my last post. The only thing I am having a problem with pertains to a burnt taste that crops up every once in a while. Sometimes I don’t notice that the tank is low on liquid until it is too late, and I basically run it dry for a puff or two. After I do that there is a huge burnt taste on anything I use on that tank/Atomizer. I am unsure how to get rid of this. I have tried dry burning and cleaning the tanks, etc.

PS. I have now introduced three previous smokers to the idea and they have all ordered one J

I'm so glad you asked this as I am in the exact same scenario. I've used the carts forever but started a new tank yesterday on my 901 and 510 and after the first few mins all I can taste now is burn and it is also very harsh on my throat.

My juice is still the same. Everything other than the new tank cart is the same.

Hope you get an answer soon.

Most likely you singed the wick. Thats why you always have to make sure you dont let an att or a carto run dry.
Depending on how bad you singed it, sometimes that nasty burnt taste will never go away, even if you clean it.
What juice are you using? If your using a sweet juice and burn a wick, you will generally notice it immediately bc the burnt wick gives off a bitter taste. With some tobacco juices, the burnt wick taste is not as noticeable and can still be usable.

Just make sure you always keep atty/cartos plenty wet. You will be less likely to burn the polyfill or singe the wick

I'm using fairly sweet juice, so there is hope the flavour will return? Also, you say not to singe the wick, so are the tips I've read about doing a dry burn to get rid of the nastiness wrong? Also also, no polyfill in tanks correct?

What PG/VG juice are you trying to use in the tanks? Tanks like the thickness of PG w/ 30% or less VG and some thinner 50/50's may work. If you use juice that is too thick (with any method of vaping), the liquid will not wick fast enough to prevent burnt taste.

If you are using suitably thin juice - the other problem with T systems is the position of the wick in the atomizer. It may need to be adjusted somewhere between leaking and burning taste. I don't know how to do that but you could check Youtube for 510-T wick and see if that brings up any videos. I know a search for Ego-T wick does.

In addition - atomizers need to be kept clean - rinsing daily and re-priming with juice may be your best bet. I also avoid all juices that drop flavoring sediment - that stuff gunks up everything and becomes baked-on slag on atomizer coils and wicks.

Sorry I forgot you said you were using a tank, so no there is no polyfill. The burnt taste might go away, but like I said, it depends on how bad you burned the wick. If its bad, normally that taste never goes away.
And like dormouse said, dont use juices that are really thick, especially if you chainvape. It wont wick fast enough and you could burn it that way.

Id recommend getting a pack or 2 of cartomizers to use as well. Personally I dont like tanks because they dull the flavors of some of my juices, and I dont like how big tanks are. Cartos are easy to use, especially when your out.
I use the Ressurector cartomizers on my E-Power. They are 1.7ohm LR and hold 2ml of juice so they last almost as long as some smaller tanks. Plus their much easier to carry around.
DOnt use LR cartos though on batteries under 450mah. You could ruin your battery.
Get around a 3.0ohm carto and youd be good to go

Sorry, I'm still kinda new to this, Aren't cartomizers a cartridge and an atomizer stuck together? Aren't they more of a pain to fill?

Yes, cartomizers are pretty much an atty and cart combined into one unit.

No, they are not more of a pain. In fact, they're easier to deal with in my opinion. Just drip juice into them until the filler is nice and wet, screw it on, and vape. They're also cheaper than using carts and attys. Cartomizers typically comes in packs of five for the same price as one atty.

Cartomizers are def much easier to deal with. Their not so finicnky and are generally pretty consistant. They also hold a lot more juice than a cartridge. Some of the bigger cartos can even last a whole day between refills. I would def recommend getting some.
The 3 most popular ways of filling them is dripping into them like mentioned above, the condom method, or using a syringe.
I fill my cartos with a syringe because I find it to be the quickest and easiest way. I use the Ressurector cartos, which are big and thats why I use a syringe. The condom method works well too, but I find it doesnt work as well on the larger cartos. Dripping into the top works also, but that requires you letting the carto sit so the juice can settle and normally Im either in a rush and dont have 20-30 min to let it sit or Im impatient. And if your using a thick juice, it will take even longer to let it settle. Using a syringe doesnt require having to let the carto sit because you push the needle all the way to the bottom and fill from there, so it can be used right away, even with a thick juice. Sometimes I will drip into the top when Im just topping off a carto, but on the first fill I always use a syringe. The first fill is important and needs to be done correctly. Cartos will generally last longer when they are filled correctly, and you will lower the chance of potentially singeing the wick. A carto needs to be kept wet just like an atomizer does.

Goodluck and let us know if you have any questions!

This may seem like a lot of work but whenever I have a tanko that needs a good cleaning, I wash/soak it then I pull the spike out and dry burn the tanko. I then take a flame (I use my gas stove burner) to the wick and burn all the crud off. After the dry burn of the tanko, I give it another wash/soak to get rid of any burnt crud in there then flood prime it. I then pop the spike back in either with the tank itself or a small flat head screwdriver. Been using the same 4 tankos for about 6 months now and they've been working great. Recently retired them when I got ahold of a Cartomator.

Damnit, I must be doing something wrong. In the last two days I have had two more atos (both brand new) go burnt tasting on me. They never went empty (I keep an eye on it now) and went burnt in the middle of a tank. This is getting frustrating as I must be doing something horribly wrong. The taste of the burnt ones is so sickening an analog tastes better :(
