I was also getting the burt taste with my 501 and couldn't figure it out for the life of me. Then I looked inside my Atty and under the bridge of the atty i noticed that there was some polyfill and looked kind of burnt. I took a screwdriver and started poking under the bridge and was able to pull out all of the polyfill. After that the burnt taste was gone....
I suspect that no amount of drenching of the atty with various agents would have solved this issue...You actually need to go in and clean under the bridge physically...
This also worries me a little bit as i suspect the burnt polyfill would be quite hazardous and if there is only a little bit of it burning, you might not even know from the taste and would continue to inhale...I think i'm going to look into non polyfill cart options now..
